California just received enough fresh rainwater to entirely end the drought and still set some aside for later, but they still continue to dump water in the ocean.

Liberals have a tendency to do more harm than good, especially when it comes to micromanaging the environment. Every year, California sends full amounts of rainwater out into the ocean.

A giant swath of what used to be called, “the breadbasket of the world” is a desert because Sacramento with the help of Washington refuses to divert water to the farmland.

They got a lot of water this last week, yet with the constant releasing of extra water out the Delta into the ocean, it will not be long before it is all gone.

They have saved over 350 Billion Gallons of water, but are already discussing excuses to release it and lower the water level in the reservoirs. The series of storms already has added 33 billion gallons of water to Lake Tahoe alone.

Particularly at this time of year, the dams need to have "head room", for lack of a better term.
You get a warm rain in the high country, and you get instant, severe flooding, especially with that snow-pack.

The farmers want to maximize their land, damn up every river, so using all the water for irrigation: fish and wildlife be damned. (pun intended).

Conservationists want to maintain minimum stream flows to ensure the continuation of the fish and wildlife that depend on it.

Environmentalists want to tear down the dams, flush all the water to the ocean while stoned on 'shrooms, and dancing in a wild trance and having tantric sex.....

The shi# usually hits the fan after multiple low water years, 'cause something's gotta give. Farmers cutting down grown almond trees because they don't have enough water to keep them alive tends to make them grumpy. Dead fish in rivers tends to make the fishermen grumpy. Not to mention the fish.....

Environmentalists are always grumpy, so screw them.

40 years ago California farmed only 5% of all land under cultivation in the USA but grossed 35% of all farm sales in the CONUS!

they're worried about the highly endangered Desert Schitweasel being deprived of it habitat, and care nothing for the extra food increased water supplies could generate to feed the poor.

The whole point of running snow courses is to know how much water's up there. If there's enough to fill the reservoirs later, they'll let a lot go down the rivers. If they fill them too soon, severe flooding can occur if there's a lot rain or a fast melt later.

Absolutely. Of course, that position was built on the cheap migratory labor that California had access to, but other states didn't.

Then the Texas Valley smarted up and took away that competitive position.

Then South Florida figured out you could hire Mexicans and cut labor costs by almost 2/3rds, and not have to deal with the black BS.

Now the farm-to-table movement is moving produce production further north and east again.

Used to be, it was cheaper to truck the produce from Texas to New York than it was to carry it across the street in New York. Now, the unions are losing their grip, trucking is getting more expensive, and local distribution options are expanding, sucking more production away from California.

You could build more dams, but they would only be useful every 10 years or so, which makes them uneconomical. Of course, if the Federal Government builds them, sure the farmers want them. But, right now, if there wasn't the demand for almonds there is, there would be plenty of water in Kali, even in drought years.

Anyway, there's anything but a shortage of food, and more dams aren't going to make a measurable economic difference.

Kali agriculture is in a long term decline and the root cause is the rest of the country started using the same cheap farm labor Kali did. Dairy, produce, orchards, all of them are facing increased competition from out of state companies.

Some have a plan and have been promoting it for years. Now, with the recent deluge the cry will again be - Restore Hetch Hetchy valley. IOW - tear down the Hetch Hetchy dam.
