Got it yesterday.. Yeah, it's SS/Walnut but coated with a matte, dull Target Gray.. ISH. Removed the stock, completely disassembled the firearm and by using a powered brush and scotch pad, I got rid of that pos Target Gray.. Now I have a nice, smooth and slick SS/Walnut M77. Did a little trigger work on it while I had the chance. MUCHO better... I had a silver Leupold Vari-X III 2.5X8 laying around and mounted it.. Too freakin' cold (-8F right now) to take it out and shoot it. I have thought about getting rid of that ugly matte on mine. How hard was it to get rid of? Can you post a pic?

Not the best camera-work, but here's a couple: Rather easy to remove.. It took about 45 mns - including disassembly/reassembly..

how's it shoot, redneck? mine shot like sh*t with everything but hornady 30 g vmax. THEN groups tightened up. THEN i took it to a gunsmith to get trigger below 50 lbs. now trigger is great, but accuracy is sh*t again. have to assume it's bedding.
rifle feels great and looks great too!

rifle feels great and looks great too! I'll find out how it shoots once the piles of snow melts and the temp rises from below zero.. What I might do though, is bring it to an indoor range that's just west of me. I think it's limited to 50 yards, but at least it'll give me an indication of what it'll do.. BTW, I already worked that trigger down to a value that's workable..
