It's not that I want your butt! I just need a photo of your stock, similar to the pose below. If I had a stock to show them, I would not be here with hat in hand.

I am struggling with Boyd's after they sent me a buttstock with the tang attachment hole off- center and over size.

[Linked Image]

They do not believe me when I tell them a tapered fastener is used in that hole, and in order to keep the stock tight, the hole must ALSO be tight! Of course, being centered is necessary as well.

This is what we get when we raise a generation of educated idiots with zero mechanical skills!

They are giving me flak because its a custom model and claim there is nothing wrong with it...perhaps I am too picky?

Perhaps they are avoiding responsibility for sending out a non-useable item.

And as soon as you try to fit your rifle on it to check the hole they will say they won't take it back.

Maybe try to talk to someone higher up in the company.

2nd try resulted in more of the same- a HUGE hole drilled off- center.

More attempts to get Boyd's to answer. If you ever have to deal with CS person named Tera- good luck. You will need all the luck and patience the gods can send you.

Currently, a CS lead is working the issue. I don't expect much at this point. I imagine I will be using some Acraglas to accurately fix the attachment hole.

I had the same problem with them.
They must have used a dull router bit when they cut out the tang area. It was not even close to being straight.
They refused to take it back because it was a custom stock. The only thing custom about it was they cut the lop and rough fit a pad.

Thanks fella's- I know the procedure needed to correct the problem. The point is why should I have to correct something I paid to have done right the first time? This is where Boyd's blew it, and I expect THEM to fix it- not me.

Boyds finally issued me a refund and allowed me to keep the mis-drilled stock.

Would I call it a happy ending? No. I would have preferred to get a quality product, even at twice the price!

3584ELK - came to this thread a tad late. My 4 eyed dog could see that the bolt hole was mis-drilled. Question for BOYDS is WHY it took your customer so long to have his problem (which BOYDS caused) resolved satisfactorily? Today, gaining a new customer is tuff enough BUT screwing the customer around is unacceptable. Homesteader

Glassbed the entire screw (with release agent) through the stock with screw tightened, You will have a perfect hole from top to bottom tang. Also you can bed front of stock and bosses to rear of receiver (remove all internals first and reattach lower tang piece to main receiver). I've done this on several Marlins.

Thanks gents, I will do exactly what smy1 suggests, but as Homesteader points out, I should not have to correct the obvious failures of Boyds.

when the entire country shops, buy's, and accepts Walmart quality crap, companies think they can get away with this slip shod work.
