Which model Thompson Center Arms?

Had a original Contender way back when they first introduced the 35 Herrett (many, many years ago) but have not had one in years so which is the best model?

What I want from it:

* Replace my slug gun with a 20 TCA
* Replace my CVA 50 cal black powder
* Throw in a 300 H&H for fun

Since prices are all over the place do I buy a frame & stock and then barrels? or a one complete gun and add barrels?

Looking at the Pro Hunter as possible starting point

That 300 H&H relegates you to the Encore, Sir.
All other barrels will be available for that frame.
I'm not familiar with a 20 TCA?
You can purchase a ProHunter in 50x209 setup and other barrels separately.
If you're interested in the slightly used market, These guys are great:

When I had the Contender I could only get contender barrels but was not sure what barrels the Pro Hunter, encore, etc could share.

Encore is the contender's bigger brother.
ProHunter is a series of Encores.
Interchangeable barrels just like contender but not interchangeable with contender.
Handles much higher pressure chamberings.
Check out T/C's website to become familiar with them.

Any Encore Pro Hunter other than the FX model. I have never handles the FX model but do have several Pro Hunter frames and several barrels including a 209X50 muzzle loader barrel. I got it initially setup as a handgun frame so it can be a pistol or shotgun, or rifle.

You'll have to go custom for that H&H, but a factory .300 Win mag should be obtainable.

The MLs (and presumeably the long-barrelled PHs) are pretty hefty, but I was surprised at how nicely a 24" walnut and blued .25/06 in the rack at an LGS handled and how light it felt.

Like the other guy said; if you think you might ever want to use it as a handgun, to be legal you have to buy a handgun frame and then add rifle parts. Silly business, but that's how the law works.

Just so you can't say you weren't warned.

Don't get a TC Encore or Contender !!!

This platform is as addicting as crack and your "rifle loony" status will be off the rails.

My addiction started in "96 and since then I've acquired
many frames, stocks and barrels. From a 17HMR contender up to an Encore 444 Katahdin and many in between.

As others have said you will need to go with the Encore. I've had several frames and barrels. You won't have any problems finding what you want.

The 300 H-H has always been a custom option. I ordered one from the TC custom shop. I had to send it back twice. The third time back they gave me a new barrel. I sent that one back twice. The H&H simply would not extract a fired case.

I finally said screw it and told them send me a .270 Win. barrel.

I've fooled with the handguns much more so than the rifles but I've always thought the 24" Encore and 21" Contender barrels were the best handling of the factory options.

As far as the legality of frames, when you called TC about it what did they say?
