I just picked up a pair of these binos for what I thought was a decent price. What has been anyone's experience with them? The Sport auto focus feature seems to work good even though my eyes are vastly different and were decent through glasses. I paid 140 bucks for them, at a place not known for good deals.....

I have used that binocular for thirty years. Certainly not the best available, they are a decent quality product regardless of what some of the self-anointed optical maestros say. For the price, the Steiner is a bargain.

I have a newer, better, and more expensive binocular now, but wouldn't be without my 8x30 M/M Steiner for a spare.

My problem is with Steiner CS rather than the binos themselves.
After many years of hard use, the binos got some fog inside. I called Steiner to see how one goes about getting them serviced. They told me it would cost $30.00 (plus shipping) just to have looked at. No more Steiners for me.

I've never dealt with their customer service. Looks like they could do better than that.

I purchased a set of Steiner 8x30 some years ago and promptly gave them to a mate as they just about screwed my eyes every time I peered through them, a problem I have not had with Zeiss, Leica, or Meopta.

These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

I had some. I felt the Leupold Yosemite's were better glass for 1/2 the money. At least at full price. AT $140 you did OK.

I have the 10x50's. They are heavy though, glass is good. When I bought them, there wasn't much to choose from.

I got my dad a pair of Burris Signature series 12x40s. They are featherweight compared to the Steiners.

I had a set and they were not collimated correctly. The barrels were not lined up. I sent then in for repair and CS tried to charge me. They finally conceded they would do the repair for free. Beside that, the optical quality was poor. I am not overly mad a Steiner, but they are forever on my banned list. I don't know if my comment is very valid. This occurred 15+ years ago with refurb military model. These were bought from SWFA sample list.

So what are the chances of getting my 10X50's repaired?
