By far, the great .30-06 Springfield
James Pepper: There's no law west of Dodge and no God west of the Pecos. Right, Mr. Chisum? John Chisum: Wrong, Mr. Pepper. Because no matter where people go, sooner or later there's the law. And sooner or later they find God's already been there.

30-06 by a long shot (no pun intended).
Wag more, bark less.
The freedoms we surrender today will be the freedoms our grandchildren will never know existed.
The men who wrote the Second Amendment didn't just finish a hunting trip, they just finished liberating a nation.

Nut
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!
No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

257 Roberts Ackley improved.
If you reload, there's no such thing as an obsolete cartridge.

44 Mag since we generally aren't allowed rifles for deer in my home state. Rifles: a tie between 243 Win and 25-06 Rem.

7 STW, back in the day I did depredation work for a Wal-Mart watermelon and pumpkin farmer, oh how I miss that. Do tell. ????? 270 or 243 but it's a push I bet. An old buddy of mine was married to the farmers daughter, they were talking one day, the farmer ask my buddy, is there a sombitch that can shoot across this field and hit a deer?, my buddy said, I know one. I met the farmer and two G&F Wardens and was handed 150 depredation permits to get started, Good Times!
