I had an action apart tonight and put it on the scales. Figured I'd post the data.

27.1 Rem 700 Short Action / Bolt / Badger Knob
1.9 Badger .312" Recoil Lug
3.4 Rem 700 Trigger / Safety / Bolt Release / Pins
0.5 Spring
1.1 Follower
1.8 Mag Box
0.5 Action screws

The action and lug total 29.0 oz. Of note is the Bighorn TL3 with medium tang and integral lug is reported to tip the scales at 29 oz. The TL3 is an awesome action with no weight penalty.

I've been playing with my TL3 for a little while, I like it a lot. Fingers crossed that my 6 Dasher barrel shows up soon, I went with a Greg-nut setup.

With the included 20 MOA rail and a Timney Calvin Elite single stage my SA TL3 weighs 34oz. 3oz for the trigger and 2oz for the rail put it the same as your numbers. The SR3 will reportedly be 2oz less and work with an internal mag box.

Carl, appreciate the data and confirmation of the TL3 numbers. Good to hear. Mine is due mid Febuary and Beanland is holding a spot for me. The darn stock will be the hold up. The rig will be a stout build but hoping to keep it under 10 lbs. The intial chambering will be 6.5x47 but I will also go the barrel nut route for switch barrels.

Here's the numbers.

29 Bighorn TL3 Medium Tang
2 Rail
3 Trigger
5 Seekins AICS Bottom Metal
5 AW Mag (shortened to 5 rd capacity)
30 Manners EH1 (+2 oz bedding)
52 Barrel 24" Bartlein 3B .264 bore
4 Seekins Rings
26 Bushy LRHS 3-12x44

156 Total Ounces

9 lbs 12 oz

The barrel is the only wildcard. Bartlein lists the blank at 64 oz but I don't know the bore used in the weight. Based on other barrels I've weighed, 52 oz for the 3B finished is an educated guess. But regardless the total rig will be 10 lbs +/- a few ounces either way. Close enough.

I just happen to have a VERY similar setup test fitted in an EH1 sitting around.

Rem 700 SA w/ GAP custom bolt knob
Bartlein #3, 24" in 6.5x47L
EH1 (unbedded)
Rail
Timney Calvin Elite
PTG Stealth DBM
AICS 5 rounder
APA Rings
LRHS 3-12

I bet with a 3b you come in a little heavier than you were calculating, but not enough to really matter.

Also, CORE Shooting said they were getting an order of Manners delivered this Thursday, including some EH1's, if you don't want to wait. Mix of colors but they should be some elite carbon camo variant.

Carl,

How's that rig shoot for you?

John,

I've never shot it set up like that, I just dropped a barreled action I had into the stock to play with. I think I'm REALLY going to like the stock, easily the highest comb and heel on a fixed traditional stock that I've used. It gives up less to my full blown comp gun than any other "hunting" setup I've tried.

That barreled action has shot decently in other stocks, MOA or just over MOA for 10 shot groups with a Scenar load I threw together for hunting. I've been able to get 10 shot groups in the .6's with Berger Hybrids.

I'm undecided if I'm going to bed it into this stock, or sell the GAP action with its EH3 and assemble a Bighorn or Mausingfield setup for this stock.

Carl, that is crazy close to what I'm doing. With the next barrel contour up it looks like mine will hit 10 lbs almost exactly. Appreciate the pic! Thanks for the heads up on the CORE Manners order. I've not been aware of CORE, but a quick search shows they are only 60 miles from me and have an awesome range! Got to check that out.

The EH1 with its high heel is by far my most favorite prone stock. I've grown to really dislike the mid shoulder junction of lower heels. Love the EH1.

Just called and had a good conversation with Josh at CORE and ordered an EH1 in Monroe camo, which I think will look the best of all color options with a stainless uncoated barreled action. Monroe, as well as a few other patterns, are only available through CORE. This has been a productive thread.

LOVE that camo pattern. Will probably have to do one of those some day.

I like that pattern a lot Clint, and those shorty AW's are interesting too. They wouldn't work with my particular DBM, but it's good to have options out there.

Carl, if you don't mind weigh your EH1 for me. My current is the standard fill (not "elite"). I wanted weight in this particular application. It goes 45 oz.

Sure thing. It's 30 oz on the nose. Thats with 4 flush cups, 2 threaded inserts, pillars, and a 1" Limbsaver, but no bedding.

Good deal. I appreciate it. 30oz bedded should be very close less some of the extra hardware.

I've got my eye on the Bighorn TL3, it's an awesome action and I'm surprised it doesn't weigh a little more. I've currently got a Bighorn SR2 short action that weighs in at 26.25 oz. Couldn't be happier with Bighorn Arms.

Update to the Seekins weight. The above was a guestimated 5 ozs. Today it was delivered and tossed on the scale.

Seekins SA AICS = 3.7 Oz

I have a feeling the 10.0 lb mark will not be breached. Not bad for a rig with a Bartlien 3b (#5 contour equivalent), stout action, and 26 oz scope.
