Most of you have seen this:

Shilen barrel and trigger, Kiff 3 pos safety, and Evan Koch carved stock on a Roger Vardy blank.
Fortunately the friend that donated this receiver and PT&G bolt has gifted me with another. I have a barrel that Frank Green at Bartlien sent me that was a weekend project. It is a gain twist, LH twist, and an 8 grove barrel.
My ideas are a Richard Gorham chamber job, another Shilen trigger, and?
Suggestions please.

Beautiful rifle. Mine is not that pretty as I simply shortened and threaded the factory bull bbl and added a tactical Leupold with mil dots. But if you miss an Easter egg at 200 yards it was not the rifle's fault.

Phil,
Both of mine are just bare receivers and Kiff bolt. I'm using what I can scrounge. Don't think I will go as far with this one.

What are you looking for Butch? Another sporter in the style of the one above or something completely different?

A dedicated squirrel hunting rifle? Silhouette competition? Synthetic stocked hunter? Safe queen? Heavy barreled benchrest competition?

We would love to help you spend your money.... smile

To start- this is what I would build if it were mine-
Good piece of fiddleback maple stock in the Early Remington 700 style (but not exhibition grade as I would want to hunt with this rifle). I just happen to have a couple good pieces of fiddleback maple that would work perfectly. smile Walnut burl tip and cap to set off the maple and simple checkering just enough for grip while hunting and shooting off hand.

Same bottom metal you have on the one above. Very thin rubber recoil pad to help keep it on your shoulder when squirrel or rat hunting.(I've found this to be helpful when hunting with a heavy coat on.) Leupold EFR rimfire compact scope in a 3 x 9 x 33 with Warne rings and bases. Also, a banded front ramp sight and rear sight on the barrel or a Lyman aperture sight in the 48 F style. Slightly swept back bolt handle with a more OEM style bolt knob drilled and lightened with a 3 panel checkered sections on the knob.
Engraved as opposed to stamped markings on the barrel for maker, cartridge, and other markings. That barrel wouldn't be octagon, would it? wink

Anyway, this is pretty close to the build sheet I'm planning on using on my 40X when I get to it sometime next year....

Bob,
It will be another Tincan shooter. I have a lot of turtles to eliminate from our fishing pond. We have squirrels, but they are not a nuisance. I think my Grand Kids and Great Grand daughter will get a lot of use out of it. I will definitely have Dan Armstrong replace the bolt handle and see if Richard Kehr will checker the knob.

That piece of wood came from the same supplier as mine, Roger Vardy in Australia. He has been my go to guy for many years. I sold or better yet, traded a nice Brno#1 to Roger a few years ago.
