Got a 92 Ford F350 7.3 IDI I need to put batteries in. Autocraft gold or duralast gold? Both are 65 group with 850 cold cranking amps.

Look around at AutoZone and Adavnced Auto, I think Auto Zone is the only one that has a 3yr guarantee anymore.

There probably are only 2-3 battery mfgr's in the US now and they just put different labels on them. I hear Interstate is pretty good.

Either one you buy, go with the best rated one

I have always had the best luck with interstate. I believe they are made by Johnson controls, so I suppose I would look to see which choice was made by them.

compare warranties as said ^ ^ up there.
i'd also check to make sure there was a
dealer for your chosen battery near the
places you frequently drive to. that is to
say if there is some place 100 miles away
that you often go, is there a place near that
could warranty the battery if need be, or
would you have to try to make it back or
have your car towed 100 miles one way?

duralast gold AGM

I'm pretty sure the AGM version is the Duralast Platinum. I have ~4 years on my AZ Duralast AGM and it's been great.

You might be right. I have the AGM and it is a couple years old with 1000CCA and it works great.

I use AGM batteries in my Diesel trucks.

Not all AGMs are equal. Some arent even as well built as some domestic wet batteries.

Odyssey is about as good as it gets for service life, reserve capacity, cycling and CCA. If Interstate still makes its AGM7, its another good one.

For wet batteries, most of the major brands will work fine. Look for a date code from K6-B7. AGMs should be 8 months or less old.

Ford diesels eat batteries (life limited design, too high charge voltage) and none need 850 CCA to operate a gear reducted starter, which anything still running probably has. The higher CCA wet batteries simply will not have the service life; but a better warranty, which you will need or use if you think its 1982 and look for nothing but CCA.

Even in Iowa, Ive continually seen longer service life with less issues with 650-750 CCA spec wet batteries in EVERY Ford vehicle that uses a BCI group 65....

What HawkI said. Odyssey batteries are the best you can buy. I have them in everything from trucks to 4 wheelers to boats. Not only does the Odyssey battery last, they are completely sealed. Most batteries say they are sealed but they are not. Being completely sealed means no off gassing and no sulfur build up around battery terminals and battery trays.

The Odyssey batteries in my 7.3 Power Stroke are coming up on 10 years old in five months and have 150,000 miles of use and they still function like new.

Nothing can beat an Odyssey battery.

I use duralas gold AGM from autozone. The warranty can't be beat and the batteries have done well in my duramax.
