I hate hot weather and I usually won't hunt but I've been seeing deer on the move. Mid 80's is a real turn-off but.....

Saturday morning I was set up on a few fresh scrapes. This guy came thru 75 yards away, down wind of the scrapes sniffing around. I grabbed my bow and got ready. He headed on up the ridge away from me so I doe grunted and he stopped and looked my way for a minute then kept going. I doe grunted again, he stopped and looked for a second and eased on up the ridge. I was thinking he had zero interest and I'm ready to turn around and pound my forehead on the white oak tree. He's at 90 yards about to be out of sight. I cleared my throat and made a real loud deep buck grunt.
He spun around on a dime and headed to me at a brisk pace with his head bobbing up and down and his ears laid back.

Ok...I know he ain't a big stud but my blood pressure tripled... Just like it did when that copperhead crawled up beside me a couple weeks ago

So he gets to 30 yards, stops and starts making a scrape. Not a good shot angle. He walks behind some bushes and junk and makes another scrape. I came to full-draw and I feel the wind hit the back of my neck. He takes 5 steps and is in the clear and is perfect for a broadside shot. SCREECH!! He slams on the brakes and slings his head up real high and starts walking backwards ... UH-OHHH :smack:

Y'all have been here.... He's about to flip the switch and turn the jets on...

I touched the trigger and I see my knock disappear in his boiler room.

Nice buck , if one like that don't get you going with a bow in your hand it's time to hang it up. Or you're hunting some really good places most of us only dream of.

Nice job. But if you think mid 80s are hot.....

Glad the shot at an alert about to spook deer turned out well. Often they don't. BTDT.

Beautiful animal.

Thanks fellas! Amazing how fast they react. I aimed a smidge low and sure enough he dipped a few inches before the drill bit hit.

Thats an excellent practice. I never aim above the white hair. Its served me well.

That and deciding to never shoot past about 15 steps ever again either....

Did I mention it was a bit over 95 yesterday and our bow season is almost over....

3rd deer with this same Swhacker broad head and it's shaving sharp. Still spins true and ready for #4 deer or varmint.

Congrats on the fun and success. I don't understand the "SCREECH!!" Do you mind explaining?

Thats a long season, we can hunt until about Feb with a bow if we want to, but its also general season.

Its why unless I have a good deer, I just won't hunt in Oct. have a couple of 140s deer here, hoping they live till Feb... to be another year older and have bred again... will see... I've shot 140s already so its no biggy.

93 this afternoon.

Good performance. I'll never trust a mechanical after some isseus moons ago. Especially when others fixed blades get it done without question. But thats a good record for that head for you!
