Hi I am planning a custom build on a Rem. 700 L/A right hand , and I am wanting a side bolt releasse installed . Can you folks recommend a Model and a smith , also do all installations require notching the stock for clearance I have just purchased a Brown Precision stock and if notching the stock could be avoided it would be appreciated . Thanks

Kenny Jarrett may still make the side bolt release for the 700. it requires a notch to the rear tang but nothing major for the piece to pass through. I have done several over the years and works like the win.70. I have also made the piece and used the original Remington bolt stop.

Talk to Mark at Short Action Customs. He'll work with you on the placement of the release. SAC Side Bolt Release

Ed probably similar to this one I had a few years ago on a custom in 358 Norma. I might have gone the extra mile and installed a spring loaded plunger like the Pre'64 Model 70 dispensing with the 700's hair pin spring.
