A map of Europe posted on Brilliant Maps shows the percentage of people from different European countries willing to go to war and fight for their country.

The map was assembled from the results of a 2015 WIN/Gallup International Global Survey. Red represents a low percentage, and blue represents a high percentage.

The Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium have a meager percentage in the teens of residents willing to fight, while Finland, Turkey, and the Ukraine are at the top of the list, where most people are ready to go to war for their country.

Western Europe seems full of contentious objectors and pacifists, while countries like Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, and Greece are far more willing to fight than their western counterparts.

In fact, it seems the closer the country is to Russia, which itself has nearly 60 percent of residents willing to go to war for the Motherland, the higher the percentage of willing fighters is.

After Russia’s 2014 Invasion of the Ukraine’s Crimea, it isn’t hard to see why.

Here’s the full list of percentages of willing fighters, country by country.

74% – Finland
73% – Turkey
62% – Ukraine
59% – Russia
58% – Kosovo
55% – Bosnia and Herzegovina
55% – Sweden
54% – Greece
47% – Poland
46% – Serbia
41% – Latvia
39% – Switzerland
38% – Ireland
38% – Macedonia
38% – Romania
37% – Denmark
29% – France
28% – Portugal
27% – United Kingdom
26% – Iceland
25% – Bulgaria
23% – Czech Republic
21% – Austria
21% – Spain
20% – Italy
19% – Belgium
18% – Germany
15% – The Netherlands
Europe may have a reputation of residents unwilling to fight for their country, but we now know that depends on where in Europe you are.

I'm surprised most of the former iron curtain countries are so low. I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. number was well under 50%.

That still is a lot of dropped rifles.

Finland surprises though maybe sharing a border with the great Bear males them a bit edgy.

Sve-den really surprises as they still haven't figured out mass migration of middle easterners is most of their current problem.

When the French, Dutch, British, and others who won't fight for their countries start trying to immigrate here to get away from the Muslims, we don't want them. We already have more liberals than we can stomach.

Willing or not (mostly not) they are already in a war but just refuse to recognize it.

You don't know much about Finland then George.....

Sweden needs to get rid of liberalism and Muslims, period...

but so does the rest of Europe.

WIN/Gallup International’s global survey shows three in five willing to fight for their country

1A global survey from WIN/Gallup International, the world’s leading association in market research and polling shows that 61% of those polled across 64 countries would be willing to fight for their country, while 27% would not.

However, there are significant differences by region. Willingness to fight is highest in the M.E.N.A. region (83%) while it is lowest in Western Europe (25%).

A history of those countries in recent conflict provides an interesting comparison. The Japanese (11%) are the least likely of 64 countries polled to be willing to fight for their country. Results from Germany are very similar – 13% willing to fight. By comparison these numbers more than double in the UK (27%) and France (29%).

A majority (52%) of women surveyed across the globe said they would be willing to fight (vs. 67%) among men. Those aged 18-34 years (66%) are the most willing. Of the variety of religious denominations covered in the survey we see those Muslims (78%) are most willing to fight for their country.

Jean-Marc Leger, President of WIN/Gallup International Association, said: “One hundred years on from the start of the First Great War we find that 61% of the world’s citizens are willing to fight for their country. However, the true story is in the regional comparison and in a time of such turmoil in the Middle East it is noticeable that willingness to fight is highest in the MENA region.

This group makes me sick to my stomach. They've been pussified beyond redemption. They will eventually become servants to their Sharia masters, and wonder how they got into that predicament.

23% – Czech Republic
21% – Austria
21% – Spain
20% – Italy
19% – Belgium
18% – Germany
15% – The Netherlands

I find it funny, that many Americans on this forum, with the backing of the most powerfull military, the world has ever seen, still are terrified by goatherders driving around in white pick-ups wielding Ak-47s.

And still have the gall to critize European countries that has seen million upon millions of their young sons die and suffering massive civilian casualties, in a global mechanized war.

Europeans knows war is a bitch, after non-stop warfare for the last 2000 years, and are not terrible keen on starting one again, when there is no need.

But, do tell us again, who is terrified of those goatherders...

Well for once I am agreeing with a lefty...

There is no reason to head into war for the sake of it... but remember the US was pretty pacifist before WW2, Pearl Harbor changed that pretty quickly.... look at the galvanization of this nation after 9/11....

I think in an armed threat, those numbers would change drastically... the Muslim invasion isn't looked at as that yet...

but as far as terrorized by a batch of goatherders.... there are plenty of Americans who are forced to stand down....personally, guys like me would pitch in to help round them all up and ship them back to the 3rd world Schitthole they came from... be it Muslims or Mexicans, Haitians etc...

and Puerto Rico can have their darn freedom from the US as a territory..... Cuba could need another friend in the Caribbean.

Europe has never found a war they could not enthusiastically join up with.
If you really want to read about total war, read up on the 30 years war fought 1618 to 1648. More impact on population percentages than WWI or WWII.

Not surprised about Finland. I've read quite a lot about the "Winter War", the war between Finland and Russia in the early years of WW2. Although terribly outmanned, the Finns made the Ruskies pay big time. They know full well that Russia can't be trusted, and I suspect that's why their number is so high.

In 5 months of war, Finland lost 25,000 troops against the Soviet Union.... Finland 'surrendered' when basically their equipment was worn out, they were out of ammunition.. and all promised help never came, except under the table from Sweden, where up to 25% of the Swedish Army, "crossed the border" and served the Finns....

In those 5 months of war, Russia released its losses in 1989, with the collapse of the Soviet Union.... 1 million plus troops killed....
