I'd buy the Winchester EW in either 308, 270 or 30-06. The 25-06 wouldn't be close. I think it is enough better to justify the extra money. Maybe even Kimber.
But between your options Ruger.

No experience with the Steyr. I don't think you could go wrong with the Ruger or the Savage. I wish Savage was still chambering the .250 Savage in their rifles.

I believe it can be the luck of the draw with any out of the box firearms. I would take my chances with the Ruger. OK, I have it narrowed down to three for an out-of-the-box shooter i can take into any hunting weather and expect dead-nuts reliability and performance: Savage Weather Warrior, Steyr Pro Hunter, or Ruger Synthetic Hawkeye.
Expectation is I have nothing to do to this rifle except scope it with a Leupold 6x36 and load it up with factory partitions...
Cartridge choices are 25-05, 30-06, or 270. I am leaning towards the 25-06...

I have never had a Ruger let me down, and all of them have been acceptably accurate to very accurate. I have owned a few Savages, just can't warm up to them. They were very accurate although. I have no experience with the Steyr

Dogger - go with the Ruger. Stock is much stiffer then the Savage (I have both). Homesteader

Dogger -
Right now there are three Ruger Hawkeye rifles in my safe with Ruger's current synthetic stock. These include a blued .308 Scout that originally came in a laminate stock and was put in the synthetic stock later, an All Weather .280 Rem and a blue/synthetic .30-06 with a 20" tube.
All three shoot very well with no bedding or free-floating having been done to any of them. While the LC6 triggers were acceptable from the factory, I have polished the mating trigger surfaces and added a dab of teflon grease to them - something I do to most of my rifles including non-Ruger. The triggers have a tiny bit of take-up with a crisp break. Don't know the pull weight but they are all good for a hunting rifle.
Right now cdnnsports has these Ruger rifles on sale:
.270 All Weather stainless/synthetic 22", $549 .280 blue/synthetic 22" - $449 .30-06 blue/synthetic 20" - $499 .308 blue/synthetic 22" - $499
In your shoes I'd be ordering one of them.
Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!
No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Out of the three.........Ruger!

I will also mimic Coyote Hunter, CDNN has the 280, 270 and 30-06 for $449. The 30-06 and 270 have the Hogue stock, which are so-so but for $450 they are hard to beat!!

Get whichever one in .30-06. In foul weather I want a bigger hole leaking more blood if the animal runs off. .25-06 doesn't always leave a good blood trail.
Personally I would include a T3 Lite SS.

Holy cow, its running about 27:4:1 (Ruger:Steyr:Savage)
Did not know a Ruger could generate such love on the Campfire, but am really interested in why no love for Savage?

Out of those three I'd get the Tikka.

Did not know a Ruger could generate such love on the Campfire, but am really interested in why no love for Savage? Ruger M77's are THE utilitarian rifle. Trigger is reliable in all weather conditions, you damn near have to dunk it in saltwater to get the metal to rust and there's no plastic parts. Accuracy can be anywhere from ok to really good but IME it will consistently be reliable with whatever accuracy it's capable of. I always used to say if I was heading out into the Bush in Alaska for an unknown length of time the one rifle I'd have confidence in would be a stainless Ruger. If all else failed you could use it as a hammer to build a house and still count on it shooting at least 1.5" groups!
