AMT Automag.. Tried it, it never worked well, I got rid of it, and I do NOT miss it..

S&W 459, Ruger super Blackhawk, HK USP. RIA 1911, S&W 586 that had some play in it, but if it was knew... it would have been a keeper.

Browning A-Bolt 300 Win Mag.Mag box too short.Factory recoil pad sucked.This rifle would absolutely kick the crap out of you.With a Limbsaver pad it was OK.Still didn't like the short mag box.Just never could warm up to it.Sold it,no regrets.

For some reason I just had to have one of these.



A couple of range sessions and a box of ammo was sufficient to convince me to find someone else who suffered from the gotta have its.

First time I've even thought about that gun in the nearly 20 years its been since I got rid of it, won't be replacing it.

A couple of Browning High Powers (sacrilegious to some, but performance wise, compared to more modern guns, I found them sub-par).

625 .45 ACP wheelgun for the same reason.

And probably a couple dozen others that I don't recall now, and that is just handguns.

I thought I would step into the 21st century and get a modern high capacity auto. After shooting a couple boxes of shells through it and carrying for a couple weeks I decided it wasn't for me. I sold it to one of my sons and went back to my trusty old Speed Six .357.

Raven or jennings, can't remember...380. My grandpa passed and I found it in his house, took it out and shot it. God awful. Loud as hell and couldnt hit a milk jug at 25 feet. Traded it after one magazine full. Got 50 bucks toward a shotgun if I remember correctly.

Got rid of a Redhawk 7.5" and picked up a 4" 629. Never looked back.

Century Arms AK Underfolder. Thing wouldn't cycle 5 rds in a row.

Blackhawk-size Vaqueros. The grip never felt natural to me. I switched to the New Vaquero and never looked back. If I can't kill it with a 255 grain flat point at 900-1000 fps, I'll go to a 480 Bisley.

Jennings J22..bought it at an auction for $30.00 and would rarely run a magazine through without a stoppage...no clue what I did with it.

Ruger Redhawks 7.5 and 5.5.-accurate but too heavy to tote all day in the mountains. Gen 1 Glock 17. Ruger Blackhawk 41 Mag 4.5 all blast no accuracy. T series Browning Hi-Power was a biter.

Ruger P85, Stoeger Luger in 22LR. The first was about a 6" -8" "pattern" the second rarely if every feed more than two in a row..

LOL, let's see if I can offend some of you.

Benelli Nova - shotguns should have some soul, Novas don't.

SP101 - great pistols and I know many here love them, but I just couldn't.

Win 70 in .338 Win Mag. - just got tired of the beating at the bench.

Springfield M1A - The Army ROTC guys got to march with M14's, we had M1's, I envied them. I bought the M1A after they came out and loved it, shot it a bunch. Then a few years ago I realized I hadn't shot it in a decade so I took it for another spin; the thrill was gone. A friend asked me why I was selling it, I told him it was like running into an old girlfriend that you had parted with amicably, you remembered the attraction, but weren't interested in renewing the relationship.

Too many great ones in there (that you'll never miss) for me to respect your opinion regarding handguns.

That's about it. Only sold a handful of guns, but that pos 1911 is the only one I wouldn't take back.

I've tried hundreds of firearms and only missed two. So, all the rest. Notables-

I did get rid of some of the cheap junky guns I had as a young kid and adult that were the German made Colts and some lousy autos.

However My biggest laments are The ones that I sold that I now wish I held on to dearly. Some of them I have search the gun show for years to find another one just like the one I had but no luck.

My lesson learned was buy wisely and after much study and never sell.......unless it so darn inaccurate that you can hit stuff. I still have one of the inaccurate shooters that I cant move on and sell and it's a Ruger Bearcat.

Ruger 10/22. Highly overrated.
AMT .380 DAO. Obsolete, and .380.
2.5" S&W model 19. I shoot the 3" model 60 much better.
Winchester 94. Craptastic.
Star Firestar. Great little pistol for its time, now - not so much.

The only Glock I ever owned.

Ditto for 1894 Winchester 30 30.

A lot of junk listed. I can understand getting rid of those.

But there are a lot of good guns listed here. I do not think it is the gun that is at fault.

Very interesting lists.. I note a couple of them: Two were rifles in .300WM due to recoil.. I can't help but agree.. I have a M70 Classic SS/walnut LH in .300 WM and I'd rather shoot a 375HH than that one..

The other interesting thing is the many posters who got rid of a ton of Rugers. That surprised me.

I also have a TON of Rugers. I assumed this thread was about handguns, since it's in the handgun forum.

Otherwise anything Winchester M70 would have been top of the list.

Ruger M77/22 MkIIKMZVLRFGWSDVY (probably missing a few letters Ruger wanted to add) Heavy Barrel Varmint model in.22WMR- shoots patterns, not groups. Expensive, heavy, and inaccurate. Still have the POS.

Winchester 94 Timber Carbine in .444 Marlin. Literally could not be sighted in at 50 yards. BNIB it could not hit a washing machine. Finally re- crowned the muzzle and it now shoots very well, in the hands of the 2nd owner! SCHEISSE!

No handguns have disappointed...yet.

I was very lucky in my teens. My father did not hunt or shoot. He loved to fish. But, I had two old (to me) guys that were friends with my dad that taught me at an early age about buying guns. First they said, do your research. Second, your too young to buy used. Third,save up and buy quality. The most important thing was to not let your young emotions drive your purchase. A lot of emotions are only temporary. Think about the future of your needs. We are old and can help you with that. I have never sold any of my guns. I have a lot of them.

Now I have sold two "paid assignment guns". About 15 years ago my sons and their friends got into guns. Like most of your young shooters, they bought guns that after the appeal wore off, they sold them. Or they got short of money. If they were quality guns with probable collection value, or I knew better, I would buy them from the kids. I think I have six from the kids. Two I have sold back to them for the same price they sold them to me. Trying to help them along the learning curve of guns.

How many times have you heard "I wish I had not got rid of that gun".

In the 70's I searched the country and finally found the greatest semiauto ever made. The HK VP70. The modern semi that was going to be the greatest handgun ever built. That is until I tried to shoot it. I burned about 1000 rounds through it trying to get it to break in and have the ability to fire an entire magazine with out a FTF. Never did. Thought it was me then I read a magazine article about them and the writer made the same comments. Got rid of it as fast as I could. Never missed it again.

One other type I forgot to mention.. S&W revolvers - just can't get into 'em.. Only have one - and it's an old M10 that my father brought home from WWII. It's the only reason I'm keeping it..

I could have said Ruger Mk I & II autos too but we just shot them until they quit working and threw them away. They were so cheap back then.

Yea can't say I have ever had a bad S&W revolver. I have sold or traded a couple but only to get another that I had to have.. Like the old Colt revolvers as well.

S&W revolvers are ok..

A Noble Model 33A pump action .22 that I dumped on a pawn shop in Manhatten, KS, on my way out of town in October 1984. I hope that they lost $$ on it.

A couple of Ruger Blackhawks, a couple of Single Sixes, a Virginian Dragoon...dont miss any of them. I have tried to like single actions, and simply cannot make myself do it.

A couple of Ruger .22s, a Mark 1, and a Mark III. Didnt care for either of them. I have a 22/45 with a Tactical Solutions upper now that I like just fine.

Every single firearm with the Ruger name on it.

Every.

Single.

One.

Other than those, a few Marlin lever actions...444s and a 45-70.

I'm proud that there isn't a slouch anywhere on that list. I've worked with all of them extensively, and while I appreciate each for the unique things it brings to the table, I've found others that meet my needs just as well or better. In many cases, the reasons for letting them go are purely logistical. If my logistical situation were to change, I'd revisit them in a heartbeat.

I'll also add that every time I see most of these in a shop, especially the Smith revolvers and the BHPs, I'm almost willing to go back, which is why I've owned so many of them more than once. The Smith M-34 is a classic example. I grew up shooting one, which was perfect when I was a kid because my hands were small. I made some shots with that revolver that I still brag about today. But now my hands are too big for any J-frame, so while I occasionally ponder getting another one, I remember the size issue as soon as I pick it up, and I hand it back to the clerk. Pretty much what Son_Of_The_Gael said about the M-1A.

If anything, I'm even worse with long guns, especially Mausers. And I shudder to think how long this list would be were it not for rental ranges...

I have a quasi Will Rogers thing going--I've virtually never owned a gun I didn't like. Every gun I've sold was for financial reasons, some difficulty, and I truly hated to see each of them go. The loss of some was truly heart breaking. Among them were Colt's pre-series 70 National Match, Woodsman, Python, Cobra, SAA.

Now I am down to only two handguns, a S&W stainless 640 in .357 mag, and a Sig P226-Mk25 in 9mm.

Randall 1911 - sucks
AT84 - sucks

When I fired it the magazine wanted to eject.
Even though it was on Miami Vice it didn't seem cool anymore.

Although I have never owned one personally, every friend that ever bought a Taurus Judge got rid of it quickly and never missed it.

Charter Arms .38 Undercover.

Quality wise Charter Arms has had its ups and downs, and my sample was definitely from one of the "downs".

I had a Taurus .22 stainless revolver that would bind up at a rate of about 30 percent of the time. I loved the gun and even dispatched a deer with it. But the timing issues made me sell it and I now happily use a 1959 Bearcat for the same purposes....

Jennings .22 received free, gave it back a week later.

I think they only made about a dozen of those things. Everybody had to take their turn and then they could send it on down the line.

AMT .380 Backup. It wouldn't come close to feeding Silvertip HPs and had a hard time even with the Remington HP that was pretty much a solid with a toothpick hole in the nose. But it worked great with round nose solids 95% of the time. Never knew when that other 5% would show up.

Yours was more reliable than mine. Glad to be rid of it.

CZ 52 7.62x25 pistol. Trigger was so heavy I had to keep checking to make sure the safety was off.

I bought a new Jennings J22 back in the day for around $50. Never had a problem with it through a couple hundred rounds. Even dispatched a few vermin at close range. I don't remember getting rid of it but must have since I haven't seen it in a couple decades. Actually, I kind of miss it.

Regarding small frame snubbies...

Look at the bright side... You'll never shoot anyone on a whim. You'll pull the gun out and start to pull the trigger, but then stop when your brain kicks in to remind you how hard that little gun smacks your hand.

Had a scandium .357...OMG, most abusive handgun I've ever seen in my life! The shooter only comes out slightly better than the person being shot.

Winchester model 100 "Jamomatic" 308 in the early 70's. Couldn't trade it fast enough!

I cleaned mine to the hilt and even snail mailed and bought three new factory magazines, boom, JAM!

I cut that fugger up and let the pieces fall into a metal 5 gal bucket and finished filling it with pig iron parts and took it and a bunch of other scrap metal from around the farm and sold it at Yaffee's up in Ft Smith.

AMT Backup 9mm. That thing had about a 50 lb. trigger pull. I actually got a pretty good price for it when I swapped it for a S&W 442 Airweight though.

Para-Ordnance P-10, when they came out in the mid-90s. It was a 3" double stack super compact 1911 .45ACP, held 10 rounds. Could not get it to shoot, jammed constantly. It sat in the safe for years until I sold it off.

I've got a Rohm .22 short revolver. Won't fire double action, piss poor accuracy. Dispatched many critters in traps with it, it spent a few months lost in the snow one year, can't bring myself to get rid of it yet, but hasn't been fired in a while.

The VP70Z has the distinction of being, I think, the first polymer frame pistol. WHAT A STEAMING PILE OF CRAP!!!

That trigger...OMG. If I was given a full week and full engineering team to come up with the worst trigger ever put on a handgun, I doubt I could improve on the VP70's trigger. The shape of the trigger was an abomination, the length of the trigger pull was horrendous, the WEIGHT of the pull would have to be measured on a truck scale...don't even get me started on the reset.

And that front sight (or lack thereof???)...what on Earth were they thinking? A sight picture with NO light coming in on either side of the front blade...it had no blade really...or maybe it had too much blade...abomination!!

He's not kidding guys...the ONE I shot had a trigger pull that was so stiff your finger would begin to feel actual pain before it broke. Worst trigger I've ever encountered (although the VP70Z tried its best to compete)
