Anybody have any .30-30's in something other than a lever action? I'd love to hear about them and also what load you run. Pictures wouldn't upset me either. I don't have one currently but I used to have the Sears version of the Savage 340. My one buddy also used to hunt with a Savage 170 in .30-30.

I got my kid a Savage break-action single shot in 30-30, but it took to firing when I closed the breech so I sold it with full disclosure. Winchester made the Model 54 in 30-30, but I've never seen one.

If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

I believe Remington chambered the 788 in 30-30. They are harder to find but they are out there.

As I kid I loved Ruger No 1's. Still like them quite a bit, but gave never owned one.
A Ruger No 1 in 30-30 with nice wood would be awfully fun.

I always mused that a savage 170 would be a pretty good thick timber still hunter's rifle for deer. Never tried one and assume that the trigger is nothing particularly noteworthy.

I believe Remington chambered the 788 in 30-30. They are harder to find but they are out there. Had one of those...killed an unholy pile of deer with it, and an elk or two. And yes..it shot as good as 788s did!

I'm getting one of the Henry Single shots when they come out in 30/30..
I had a drilling that was two 12 gauge barrels over a 30/30 barrel.

I have a Contender carbine in .30-30, and it is okay, knocked over a doe with it.
I think I like the idea of rebarreling a modern Low Wall into a .30-30, but I'll have to get it built.
Ruger did make a run of .30-30's in the #1A a few years ago, but not many of them. They are fairly hard to find.

Just looked over at those. Man, that's retro memories. Looks so much like Daddy's old Springfield .410 I have in the safe. 2 1/2" chamber. Bought it in the early 1920's. May have to get one myself.

I've owned these rifles in 30-30 that weren't lever guns:
H&R 158 Topper mannlicher Remington 788s Savage 24Vs, 170s and 340s
I still have a 170 and a 340 and I shoot factory ammo in them.

I have a 14" Contender chambered in .30-30, no harder to shoot than a .44 mag and has a much flatter trajectory.

I have a Winchester M54 .30-30, one of my favorite rifles. Pretty much my go-to deer rifle anymore. Holy Grail of bolt action .30-30's, IMO. I shoot a 190 grain FN cast bullet @ 1900± fps which with the receiver sight will slop into 1½"/100, when I mount the Fecker target scope on it, said load will hover around 3/4". I'll post a pic if I can figure out how to maneuver from my smartphone to photobucket.

Figured it out: (Ignore the hunter's rations, the pic was a private joke with my pard.) The gun was carried a lot- plenty of worn bluing, but she's tight, with a crisp bore.
