I am blown away by how cheap guns in 270 WSM are going, just found a Tikka T3 270 WSM shipped to my FFL for $460.

I am thinking of building a 35 WSM.

In the early 1980s I was thinking about buying a 7mm-08. The Gunsmith cautioned me by letting me know it was a new cartridge. He indicated that you never know if a new cartridge was going to last 20 or 30 years from then. I did not buy one and as we all know it's still kicking around.

If you reload, there's no such thing as an obsolete cartridge.

My son and I love our Model 70's. He has my old original Super Shadow from Walmart, which he installed a Lilja barrel, finished at 27". I have the current Ultimate Shadow. His is more accurate than mine and he pushes the 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips 3250 fps. Long range deer wrecker.

If anyone wants a very nice one in a Mdl 70 Classic FW I have one I'll sell.

Old age and health won't let me put to good use.

I for one love the cartridge. The ballistics are pretty impressive - darn near a match for the 270 WBY. The short action rifle handles great and the accuracy that I've found has been what I would expect from a varmint rifle. The only issue that I have seen is the lack of available brass for the past several years but that issue was not just limited to the 270 WSM. Winchester has returned to the game and has had new brass on the market for the last 2 months - at reasonable prices even! Even factory ammo is reasonably priced so I'm not sure what others are missing. All that being said, I think the round is a bit overkill for a 100 yard deer rifle but for anyone wanting to stretch their legs a little it is a solid choice for most NA game.

My brother in law has killed several Elk, Mule Deer, and Whitetail with his. It's a Tikka T3 SS grey laminate stock and shoots like a laser.

Enjoy the hunt while it lasts!

I have a Steyr Pro hunter SS and absolutely love it. The accuracy and trigger are phenomenal. I have 100 new cases and the LGS has a shipment of cases that just came in . It is a deer hammer

I have had a Tikka SS 270WSM for many years. It is one of the most accurate rifles I own and is my go to rifle for hunting the West.270WSM is one of the most popular WSM`s cartridges sold.Tikka T3`s are cheap right now because the T3x`s are available.

I have one in a 700 B&C Edition. I had it accurized/timney installed and it shoots better than I ever expected it too. It is also the least picky rifle that I have ever owned. I have only used it on deer, pigs, and aoudad. However, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take it on an elk hunt or plains game hunt.

I like mine a whole lot. Been one of the easiest rifles/cartridges to load for. Not exactly a Weatherby, but it isn't too far off either.

It is real easy to load for. The first load I tried with Accubonds was sub MOA in my rifle. My son in law and his friend tried them in theirs, sub MOA

The reason the 270 Win is more popular than the 280 Rem is that it had a substantial head-start, making it available world-wide. Had they been released simultaneously I doubt anyone would be packing a 270, me included.

Since the 270 WSM and 7mm WSM were released simultaneously (2002) I tend to think the 7mm version made a lot more sense, since there are more 7mm bullets available. And, of course, the 7mm WSM has a shorter neck (more capacity) than the 270 WSM.

I had a 270 WSM and couldn't see why I'd use it over the standard 270. If I'm packing a magnum, I like something 30 cal or heavier. And of course, the 300 WSM is far more popular than both combined, having been released first, and being 30 cal!

Most folks are deer hunters. The WSM doesn't offer much, if anything over the WCF for that. Now, with RL26 pushing 150s to over 3k in the WCF, its lead for bigger stuff is eroded a bit too.

Good round. No reason not to get one, but for most, not much of a reason to seek one out when there are so many nice WCFs to choose from.

I have a Sako Tecomate in 270 WSM and love it. I shot a small 5x5 bull in Colorado last year, 2 broadside hits at 200 yards and the elk went about 10 yards, both complete pass through s with 150 grain Nosler Partitions. The WSM doesn't knock an elk off it's feet like a 300 Weatherby though!

My son has a Weatherby Vanguard chambered in 270 WSM. Loves it! Easy to load for, accurate, and flat hammers game. Imo, the biggest advantage though over the WCF is handling. The compact, short action, really does make a very noticeable difference in the field. This, plus the weight savings make it such a joy to carry and shoot. We're all in in the 270 WSM.
