Guys, I'm looking to buy a broadcast spreader to pull behind my 4 wheeler that will handle cracked as well as whole kernel corn to spread on one of my small fields. Hopper size isn't a big issue.
Thanks.

Cant tell you a name but know what you mean< amish use them a lot here to spread on produce plots. The one draw back and what I usually fix for them is the wheel base is usually narrow and they tend to tip over, 4-6 inches on each side solves the problem !!

Many are made to slide into a receiver hitch. You can put them on the front or back. They have adjustable apertures to handle different size feed. Google will display many. Lehman is one of the best.

I have a Stainless Steel Turf Buddy broadcast spreader that came from a golf course. It had never been used. It's the perfect size for behind an ATV. It looks a lot like this.

Many are made to slide into a receiver hitch. I have one of those, and they are very unstable, plus it did not last very long. Motor went very fast. You will have to figure a way to stabilize it. I use two small cables to my rack, but it was a pain to put it on and off. I don't think I will replace the motor but find another way. miles

The receiver hitch ones never last they get beat to $hit hanging back there with no support, and supporting them is a joke as miles says

plug a hitch one into the ATV, its gone hundreds if not thousands of miles of ROUGH terrain feeding senderos on hog hunts over the years.
Its venado feeders brand and one of, if not the best I've ever seen for a road type spreader.
Of course mine only holds 50 pounds but I've used ones that hold 100 with the same results.

FWIW we are about to leave next week on a 4 day hog hunt at Laredo. That feeder will be on there for 4 full days and we'll be driving big loops probably 12 hours a day between looking for hogs and night calling varmints too...48 hours of use won't hurt it in the least.

Lots of opinions but fewlinks friends.
Rost495, the vanado site doesn't show any pics when I clicked on their road feeder section.
Thinking at his point to buy an inexpensive model from TSC and cross my fingers.
Motor issues from even the popular brands are fairly consistent.A wheel driven model might be worth looking into.

Look at All Seasons, Lehman, Lamco they all make tail gate feeders . They can be made to hang on the tail gate or plug into the receiver hitch. Hasbeen

Not pull behind but get a Hurd GT 77 spreader and the atv kit. They are about bomb-proof. Parts for any problems are readily available.

I've driven hundreds if not thousands of miles with a feeder plugged into to receiver hitch. The early models had a gate you had to open to allow the feed to fall to the spinner plate. The newer model have a spring loaded spinner plate to keep feed from trickling out as you drive on rough roads. I've feed corn and milo. I prefer the 100# models but I use them on a jeep. Hasbeen

I have found that the pull behind fetilizer cart I bought for that purpose actually does a better job than the pull behind seeder that my friend had when we seeded over a mile of clover on 8' wide atv/utv trails. Also used it on oats. Fairly inexpensive. This is the one I got........ http://www.agri-fab.com/Products/Spreaders/175-lb-tow-spreader.aspx

By the way motors are cheap and easy to replace. They are just small open 12 volt fan motors. Corn dust gets them after a few years. Hasbeen

Thanks, hasbeen. Pretty darn impressive and looks to be "maintenance friendly". It just went to the head of the class.
