Any word on the ice fishing for smelt in Maine?

Pardon my ignorance,but how do you" fish " for smelt?
We used to dip net em,but never heard it refered as fishing.

First of all, I've only fished for smelt a handful of times in Maine during the "smelt run." Here's what we do: sitting in a nice, warm shanty, we tip small hooks with a tiny piece of seaworm. We fish near the bottom with two hooks and a light sinker.

Not sure if you are asking about sea smelt or inland smelt. I guess it doesn't matter but both have been very good.
