Most of the lakes are still frozen but getting sloppy with slush. I love the fact the water doesn't freeze up below the dams in the tailraces. I much prefer fishing open water.
This dark rainbow succumb to my marabou jig shortly after first light in the morning.

The next day, around mid day, I caught four more rainbows all basically cookie cutters of this one.

Towards the end of the day this absolutely gorgeous gold colored brown trout made my whole day. It is one of the prettiest browns I've ever caught. Quickly took a photo and slipped in right back in the water. The fishing wasn't fast and furious, but all in all, it was a very good weekend!

Is it Friday yet?

Well my buddy caught a really nice brown, tipping the scale a tad over 5lb. We caught this from a boat on the white river in Arkansas. That was the biggest fishy the two days. I did manage a 2lb and a nice 3lb brown on fri. We caught a ton of rainbows. Here is the 5+ fish. Wish that was me holding it

I recall the white river in Arkansas. TRY fishing a Scud fly on a #8 hook drifed down throught the deep holes. Through the fly to the start of the deep pool and let it drift very slowly down deep. maybe try 1 small shot clamped on the leader about a foot in front of the fly. HANG on they strike very very light just watch you line when it stops driffing or starts to drift differently then set the hook and Let the games begin.

These fish are smart from repeated fishing so play smart.

Hey Big Sky. Can you share some pictures closeup of you marabou jig. I think I know the one you are talking about????
Have you tried the wooly worm with maribou tail?????

I see four more years of economic stagnation and high unemployment if Obama is reelected. He lies every time he opens his mouth. "The GREAT DECEIVER"! Scary prospect.Worst president EVER.

I am jealous Big Sky.
All of my favorite places are behind locked gates and under 20 feet of snow.
The low country winter lakes are un reachable, or full of mud
My yearly late April or early May trips will be put off until mid June at best.
I know in the long run, all this snow will be a good thing, but right now,
I NEED TO FIND A PLACE TO FISH !!
