Won the youth set with 243, 20 ga, and 22 lr, barrels this past weekend. Anyone have any experience with these? Decent shooters or tomato stakes?

Little man will be five in June, so I have some time to upgrade or replace as needed.

Sell it.

In 2003, while working at Dick's, I put some of those together. Was not impressed. Word was that they were very sensitive to forend screw tension, making changing barrels without dinking around a bit pretty tough.

Maybe the new ones are better, maybe not.

I was at the gun shop in town last fall, he had 4 of them in to be fixed or sent back to Co. said they were Junk! I sell it, if it was mine!

My experience has been different. My daughter received one, as a gift, from some hunting buddies, I hosted, back in 2001. It is the 22lr/410 combo. All my kids have learned to shoot, with this gun. It has taken. Prarie dogs, coyotes and other pest, over the years and it's so small, we often take it with us on pack trips. My boy killed his first turkey, with the 410. I think, however, a 243 may be a little stout, in such a light rifle. Accuracy, was never a problem. I would keep it.

Thanks guys. Not going to sell it, most likely just set the 22. barrel on it and wait for little man to grow into it.

I will scope the 243 barrel and see how it shoots. Never owned one, so it's an excuse to play with something new.

I have one with a .22/.410 set-up. I had to return it once for a firing issue, but they took care of it promptly. I use it for Nuisance Rodents around the house. It's a nice little weapon and for a small kid, it should be perfect.

Bought a 223/20 ga. set for my son when he turned 12, he just turned 22. Anyhow, it has been fine for us, he used it for groundhogs and small game. I added about an inch spacer to the stock and use it myself as a walk around groundhog rifle sometimes. Ain't pretty cause the finish on the spacer doesn't match the rifle wood very well but it goes bang every time.

I didn't do a lot of load development but it runs around inch and quarter for 3 shots at 100 yds.

I bought the same setup for my step son about 8-9 years ago. The 22 barrel was quite accurate. The 243 was so-so accurate. Average 2-2 3/4" with hornady 100gr btsp. The kick did have a little bite to it for a 243. The 20 gauge well..... that was the hardest kicking SOB I've ever shot in my life and all I tried were light dove loads. It was way to much for a 9 year old.

I came across a deal on a youth model 7 243 so the Rossi got traded and found a youth 870 and a 10/22 at good prices so he ended up with 3 guns.
