Half of the calves went to market last fall, this bunch stayed. When I have a bumper crop of hay and corn I usually sell the surplus. Hay and corn prices sucked so I decided to put it into calves.

Good luck Roundoak, A motto I had years back was you can't make on money sitting in the pool hall.
The old, "Cheap corn makes cheap hogs", can be a factor as well.
At what weight do you plan on selling?

Sam, rather than a glimmer of hope I was looking for the end of a rainbow. First calf...hope it and momma are doing well.

Sam, years back, we got a few red calves using registered Angus bulls. The odd bull, back then would throw a red calf, or so.
If you, and dad don't want it, I'll take it! (smile)

This climate change/global warming will be good for cattle weight gain in my temperature zone...burn less calories to keep warm.

Worst part about spring is when the frost leaves the ground.

This climate change/global warming will be good for cattle weight gain in my temperature zone...burn less calories to keep warm. We ran out of hay last winter, and had to scramble around and buy more. Last fall, I no tilled wheat in all my pastures, and bought extra hay....just in case. We have had an extremely mild winter. Cows have nibbled on wheat all winter, and now that I've fertilized the pastures, it's really took off. Have about has much hay left, as I've fed. But I still don't buy the global warming chit.
