Don't you just love it when a rig shoots out of the gate? Bought this unfired AREA 419 300 WM from 300Mag. He sent a box of ABM 185 Berger Classic ammo. I tapped out the bullet and re-seated it just shy of the lands and let it rip. Wow, now thats a good start! By chance, I happen to have 185 VLDs on hand (not the Classic like the ABM load) so I stuffed the case full of H1000 and let it rip. Wow, I'd say it likes the 185's!

As for the POI shift between the two loads, there was .1 mil adjustment right. One was shot on a windy afternoon and the other in the still of the morning. One was shot with the muzzle brake on and the other was shot with the muzzle brake screwed off.

The groups are 5 shots.

I'm done, 185s it is. Not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Zero load development. That was too easy.

Area 419 work is superb, flawless, with great attention to detail. 10 out of 10.

Specs:

*Surgeon 1086 repeater action

*McMillan Rem Hunter stock - Custom pillar bedded and finished, 13.5" LOP, 2 sling studs installed

*Custom paint by Branden at Custom Gun Coatings

*Krieger stainless 5R barrel - #5 contour, 1-10" twist, finished at 24" with brake

*Vais Micro-Brake - 5/8-24 threads, machined to match barrel contour

*Badger M4 bottom metal, Rem mag box and spring, Hawkins Precision follower

*Jewell Trigger

*All metal cerakoted in Graphite Black

300Mag is A+. I've got first dibs on any of his stuff from here on. You boys won't even get to see it. LOL.

Your satisfaction is his priority, and extremely so. I started to shoot him a pic of those groups and tell him I wanted my money back, it isn't shooting up to my expectations. eek

Clint nice rifle and groups......

Jon just built up a 8.2 twisted 7mm Rem Mag for me and the accuracy and his attention to detail is unbelievable , and I agree Jeff sells some of the nicest rifles you can get!

Jeff, who are you using for your Creed build?? I'm in the early stages of collecting parts for one as well.

Nice shooting ctsmith that is a heck of a nice rifle!

Nice! I was super tempted when I saw that one up for sale, but I'm in the middle of putting together a 6.5 CM as well. Glad it went to good hands.

While the one hole group is spectacular there is
quite a bit of difference, one is obviously a hunting rifle shooting exceptionally well and the other I assume is probably set up as a target rig with bullets jammed into the lands.....apples and oranges!

Nice shooting Clint!

A good thread turns into a shooting contest....sad.

Who cares about a trophy group shot five years ago?

I really like the looks of that Rifle. I'm debating a someday build either on that action or the Templar.

300MAG and Clint - thoughts on the Surgeon? Why did you go that way on the build? I've read some of the Surgeon VS. Defiance threads but am still lost.

Yep, and that's a shame.

I really like the Surgeon action....its built like a tank, runs smooth, and is very reliable. I have other rifles built on Surgeon actions so I like to stay with them.

Defiance makes a great action also...its probably a little more "sexy" than the Surgeon, and has more options to choose from.

Overall they are both good to go & would make a great rifle!!

Nice banger Clint, you gonna try some heavy Bergers in it?

My old 300 WM really came alive with the 230 Bergers and Retumbo.

Has anyone tried Vv N-570, .300WM heavy bullet loads?

Vv is great powder and N-570 is pretty close to RL-33, slightly slower than Retumbo.

Very Nice!

With that rifle/load combo, a guy could hunt pretty much any medium/big game anywhere and be quite happy.

Clint did my former NULA ever draw blood? I like the idea of a LR rifle built on the Remington Hunter stock.
