I am interested in buying a 45/70 Marlin. I like the 22 inch barrels. I do not see much difference in price of new vs. used. I am wondering if current production rifles are worth buying? Quality issues?

Heed their advice, JM only for me too. Just bought a 1990 1895SS with 22" barrel with intentions of cutting it shorter and after going back and forth and handling carbines along side of mine definitely leaving it as is. Much nicer handling IMO. And the newer Remlins I had my hands on were no where near as nice and smooth as my JM and it was unfired!

From what I've read....Remington is screwing the pooch with the Marlin products they are building...too bad.... I'll keep buying the 'ole real Marlins' soon to have a 1954 Mountie '39 in transit..

The new are better quality. Only forum feucktards continue to regurgitate the quality problems Remington had right after they acquired Marlin.

Not sure if I read the thread here or on another forum but a member bought a new 45-70 recently and the barrel only had rifling on one side? I think I'll stick with my "real" Marlins. Take care all, Rick
PS. May have been on Castboolits

Go to Marlinowners and you'll see why most of us will insist on a good, used, Ct.-made Marlin.

How many of you forum experts have handled a new Marlin? How many of you experts even own a Marlin?
Those of you dissing new rifles are clearly so full of shlt that your eyes are brown. Reading the rants on Marlin Talk will just reinforce stupidity. Even on this forum we have an idiot repeating a partially understood story about missing rifling - and the forum morons all clucking in approval. What a bunch of flipping idiots!

Remington no longer heat treats the carriers or shell lifters as Marlin always did. That would be enough for me not to buy a Remlin. The inside mechanics of a Marlin also matter....to most of us. Doc

I have owned several of both and I would buy a brand new Remlin (CNC machined) the ones ive owned have been very good...I would avoid the latter made North Haven rifles and the first few years of the Remlin rifles (before Remington retooled the factory) as they were both made with the same worn out equipment from the old Marlin factory.....Good luck.....Hb
