Picked up a Mark IV 22/45 lite last week. Very excited to finally have a mark series pistol with a left hand friendly safety!

Looking for options and suggestions for mounting a red dot sight other than the factory installed rail on top. Would like to get it lower and closer to the bore axis. Pictures especially appreciated. Thanks!

Is the rail permanently mounted or is it held on with screws? The Ruger website says it's "factory-installed" but doesn't say if it's permanently attached.

The Burris Fastfire has a mount specifically for the Ruger Mk series pistols that fits in the dovetail of the rear sight so it sits as low as possible but it wouldn't fit with the rail in place. This is mine on a target model but the receiver contour should be similar and even if not the mount doesn't rely on an exact match to fit.

It's technically a reflex and not a red dot sight as I understand the nomenclature these days so not sure if this fits what you're looking for.

I had saw the madmac's a few days ago and about [bleep] when I saw over $300 for a mount. Just now realized that it comes with a Vortex Viper! I'm gonna have to stay offline after drinking:)

A viper was what I was leaning towards, but will have to give the Fast Fire a look now, knowing that it comes with a base that can be used instead of the rail. Thanks again guys.

Jim what is the size of the "dot" and how's the accuracy been?

Whatever you choose, I suggest one with manual brightness, at least as an option. My first generation Fastfire is auto only and sometimes I have to fool it with a piece of tape over the sensor to get the brightness down to a proper level. New auto models may be better, but I still want the final word on what works for my eyes.

I think anything over 3moa is too big for a .22, 2moa is better, but harder to find.

Red dots will let you shoot a pistol better than you can imagine.

That's a Fastfire II shown, IIRC it had a 4 MOA dot. I've since sold that and bought a Fastfire III with a 3 MOA dot and prefer the 3 MOA, plus the III model fixed some shortcomings of the II - an auto and three manual brightness settings, much better adjustments and the battery can be replaced without removing the sight. Overall the Fastfires are great thing hitting sights, not the best group shooting sights although with the right target that lets you center the dot you can shoot some really good groups.
