Classic edge or Hunter's edge with your stainless 243 will make for a really nice combo. Actually thinking about doing the same thing myself.

Seems there was a time when a R700 / McSwirly / LW's / 6x42 M1 was the "thing".

Still is as far as I'm concerned.

My favorite is a Classic, but there's no flies on the Compact/Hunter's Edge version.

I don't recall the weight. Balance & handling was great, but I sold it earlier this winter just when I got it the way I wanted it, due to redundancy.

My 30-06 is .655" at 20", that's where I cut it off. Probably .650 at 24".

The magnum sporter SPS's are beefier near the chamber, I don't know if they are out at the muzzle or not.

Pretty sure a regular sporter is right at .650 at the muzzle @ 24". I have a stainless SPS 7mm-08 barrel cut @ 22.5 and its right at .656 - .657 on my cheapo calipers.

+2 on the "fits you" aspect. Personally I prefer the Hunters Edge better because of the thinner, more open, grip and the thinner fore arm. I put one on a Pre-64 .270 FWT that comes in right around 7 lbs with a Lyman 48 aperture sight and Montana sling with swivels.
