... a couple new turkey hammers.

I sent some 870 youth 20 gauges off from the shop to be dipped in Bottomland, then drilled and tapped. Added a UTG picatinny, then mounted a Fastfire 2 on mine and used the Weaver on his. We basically shot the same guns last year, but in black. I moved him up to the compact from the compact jr.

He'll be shooting the 2 3/4", 1 1/8oz Federal HW #7's again and I'll be shooting TSS #9's. Youth season comes in April the 1st and I expect him to have a bird down before my season starts on the 15th.

I'm liking the way they look!

They look great! I have 3 20's now. One youth 870 and 2 11-87's. The 20's and TSS are addictive!! Good luck youth season!

Very nicely done! I'm hoping to finally get to see how the 20ga does this year. I'd love to try some of those TSS #9 loads, but alas the DNR doesn't allow it. So, HW #7 will get the nod.

He was all smiles when I handed him the shotgun. Let's hope he connects early. He's already requested turkey kabobs.

I'm loving having a Grandson who likes to hunt and shoot as much as this one does. Hang in there Case. You ARE the bloodline.

Did you have to switch out the youth stock on yours for an adult stock? Are they interchangeable?

The 870 compacts come with spacers. You take off the recoil pad and insert the spacers. The guns come with three -- one 1/2" and two 1/4". They allow you to lengthen LOP by 1" total. I use the 1/2" and 1/4" to lengthen it 3/4" for my turkey gun. All four give you the same LOP as the full size gun. I like it a little shorter for this purpose.

Mine on top with the spacers inserted, his on bottom as they ship...

I connected late yesterday afternoon. Case is a little under the weather and I am too (now)! He went with me yesterday morning, but didn't feel up to the afternoon jaunt. We weren't in the right place during our morning hunt. We heard tons of birds gobble, but things didn't work out.

I stayed on the fields all afternoon yesterday. Birds started popping out around 6:00. Hens came into the decoys and distant birds took notice.

This bird stumped me after I got over to it. Strutting, full fan, 10" beard hanging down -- so I busted him! I got over to the bird and the head looks very jake-ish. Spurs were a tad over an inch, but nothing huge. I'd say this was a young bird. I'm guessing late hatch last year?

Anyway, the TSS dropped him like a hammer. Didn't flop, didn't kick, didn't twitch. Stone cold dead at the shot.

The goal now is to get Case on a bird. We still have plenty of time...

Congrats on a nice bird.

Not trying to be rude so please don't take it that way, but definitely not born last year, he would have nubs for spurs and a "jake" "beard if that was the case as he would be a jake. Most likely with spurs just over a inch he would be 3 years old. You can use the "spur aging guides as a reference" but of course it will vary regionally some. Either way he is a beautiful bird. Hope your son is able to feel better and connect on a bird!

All three I have shot this year were 3 by spur guesstimate and satellite birds so definitely not the boss toms. I need to post them but forgot how to post pics lol
