Need to get some loads going for my new Defiance .243AI. I've got some AI brass that fits the chamber well, so don't need to fireform for now. I'd like to try 85 grain tsx, 90 grain Nosler E-tips and 105 A-max's in it. Will be a deer rifle, so would prefer to max out velocities. Was thinking Magpro, RL17, H4831 and H414 might all be good powders?

What say you?

Thank you,

Joe

Joe my 243ai likes rl22 and h1000 with heavy bullets. With the 85tsx try 4831. I've never tried rl17 yet but hear great things from brad. Don't over look the 95/105 vlds either.

Joe,

243 AI has the same capacity as the 6mm Rem. Use that data.

Thanks, David. I think I had read that somewhere before when waiting for my rifle. I found a few threads on here from Brad Arnett too with some 105 amax loads.

805 - thank you. I'll give the 4831 a whirl with the 85's. I know the VLD's have a strong following, but I sold all mine when I had a few blow up on the outside of a trophy muley in Montana a few years ago. Probably wouldn't happen again, but just one of those mental blocks my stubborn mind can't get around.

When I posed that question to "Boxer" about the 105 AMAX he said:

"243 AI has the same capacity as the 6mm Rem (hint). RL22, CCI200, kiss, find pressure, rock on."

I hear you on the 90 gr AB! I'll hopefully be the first to have some when they come out (a fraternity brother of mine is a VP there and is real good about hooking me up). I need to give him a call and see what the holdup is.

The hold up is.... They're still trying to figure out what a 90 grain Accubond will do, that a 95NBT won't.... for half the price and a better BC.

48gr of RL22 and the 105's. 3140 in my 24" 243ai. Accurate.

Any updated loads?

I've been running Calvin's load and a duplicate using 7828 SSC.

Who has other loads for the 105/108 Bullets in an 8" twist Ackley?

44gr of IMR4350 with moly 105's is stupid accurate, and gives 3120 fps in my match rifle. Essentially no temp variation in this particular load.

Tanner said 47 grains of 7828 SSC under a 105 AMAX. Anyone else?

I am running moly'd 105s and 7828SSC. I based my load work up on Tanner's info (along with others) and I wound up with 48.5gr.
I never did get around to shooting it across the chrono (haven't done much shooting or hunting in a while) but I'm also going to see how the Scenar and Berger Hybrids do too, hopefully soon.

All the info I gathered would indicate she's running pretty hot but I never had any warning signs and proceeded slowly.

Moly 105 Amax (kissing), 48.5gr 7828SSc, CCI BR2, Win. case

Those guys don't have too much info on the heavies, and I'm looking for 105 AMAX or 108 Hornady info.

Why don't you try that? Do you want a good 243AI load or do you just enjoy gathering data?

I am trying that. And 47.5 and 48 and 48.5

I'll probably try Jordan's load, and RL-17 around 44 grains.

I've found RL22 and 7828 SSC to be pretty much interchangable in the 45-48 grain range, so I probably won't buy RL22 again.

And trying all of the above with the 105 BTHP and the 105 AMAX.

I remember the load for this rifle from Tanner to be more stout than 47 grains, but can't find my notes from when I owned it before.

So what's the rate of twist in your barrel?

My .243 AI likes 41.5 H-4350 not a max load but very accurate with 105 Scenars, the best hunting combo I have found for pigs and white tails.

I have loaded R=22 but haven't shot it yet.
