Finally got the 6mm284 that I got from JeffG out to the range. I knecked down some 6.5mm284 Lapua brass and loaded some H4831SC and Nosler 80 gr. BT's. It shot 7/8" groups with 51 and 52 grains H4831 and a 3/4" group with 52.6 g. I wrote 3/4" on the target but on remeasuring they're 7/8". Here is a closeup of the action and scope. That's a Weaver K10. It also makes a good carrying handle. An overall pic of the rifle. Any suggestions on loads would be greatly appreciated. The load data calls for Fed 215 primers. I had a really hard time seating them. I ruined a few and I think they have become very hard or impossible to find. Any suggestions for different primers? The guv' ment is about to delist wolves here. I think this might be my wolf gun. David

I love it! What a screamer.
AND, I carry my rifles by the scope. No, I haven't ever had a problem. No, there's nothing to argue.

What did you discover about the twist rate David? It looks like it enjoys going fast.

" Any suggestions for different primers?"
Per the Hodgdon's reloading site, your load of 52.6 of H4831SC (use same data as H4831 per Hodgdon's) is under the 55 gr. max (off about 5%). I would look for whatever primers are most common where you buy. For me that has been CCI (1st) and Winchester (2nd).

I haven't checked the twist rate yet. The bolt sticks at the very top of the lift with all the loads but not as bad with 51 Grs. I was thinking of trying loads lighter than 51 g. I'm going to try some magnum WLR primers since the load data suggests the fed 215 which is the hottest Federal makes. Most of my scopes are mounted low enough that my hand doesn't fit between the scope and receiver but with the big bell on the K10 I couldn't mount it much lower. The old Buehler mount is really cool but it will be a pain in the butt if I have to replace the scope so the mount might get replaced. David

oooh, I'll take the mounts off your hands David...er, I mean, good luck with fine tuning this beauty.
The loads seemed middlin' to me too. I'm wondering if the bolt lift issue might have more to do with trimming the neck diameter or length?

Some of the cases are hard to get in and out of the RCBS #3 shell holder so that could be the problem. This is my first experience with Lapua brass and so far I'm not impressed. David
