I'm interested in both these rifles, but only have the ability to pick up one right now. They're both fairly new rifles, so I was curious if anyone here has any firsthand experience with either (although experience with other rifles from these same companies is appreciated too).

Both are good looking with features I like for a hunting rifle, just torn as to which I should pick. I'm also open to the Montana Rifle Company's X2 if anyone has good/bad experience with that.

The Mesa has been talked about by a few people and seems like a solid rifle for the $$$, in fact, I'm thinking of grabbing one in 7mm.

I don't think the Fieldcraft has been released yet so I doubt you'll find a good review of it. I'm starting to wonder if it will ever happen, if it does, Ill buy one right away.

I talked to one of the large, online firearm retailers this week about the Fieldcraft. They're expecting deliveries from Barrett sometime from the beginning to mid part of April.

Got it. So the Fieldcraft is yet to hit the shelves.

I know the Mesa is still pretty new, I'll have to search around on here to find what I can.

I've seen a few threads on here regarding the X2, interestingly it sounds like it's a better/more ergonomic setup with the MRC stock rather than the B&C stock.

Three different Barrett employees told me at the shot show the fieldcraft would be at RSR by mid to late February. Last year at the NRA show they said by hunting season. Who knows when they will be available. I really want one when they are.

The montana 1999 is a sollid rifle, my 264 win mag is a .75MOA rifle with nosler ammo. Maybe a little heavy, but that might not be an issue depending on your style of hunting.

The montana x2 is really nice. In my opinion it's one of the best all around hunting rigs out there. I have one in 30-06 as my basic grab and go hunt rifle and I couldn't be happier with it.

It isn't a light weight mountain rifle though as has already been pointed out but they aren't boat anchors either as some would have you believe. I love mine for hunting moose and caribou, I save my kimbers for when I get into the really steep stuff. For moose float trips and day hunts the montana x2 is nearly perfect.

Peaple are saying "soon" for the fieldcraft but I'm not holding my breath, it would be sweet but until I see on on the shelf or start reading reports of them on forums....its not real to me.
