I think I'm going to take the plunge and get a Kimber Classic Select Grade, probably in 257 Roberts. I would be interested to hear from anybody who owns one, or a short action Select Grade in general.
I've certainly read some bad reports, but also many good ones. I can generally get my guns to shoot so I think it's worth the risk. Aesthetically, they are simply beautiful rifles. I would probably add a small variable power scope in lightweight mounts and call it good.
One question...I believe I've seen these rifles with full wrap around checkering on the forearm, but mostly with just a panel of checkering on each side. Did I dream the wrap around checkering or did they make some that way?
Thanks,
SR

I've had a Select grade in .257 Roberts for a few years. Quite accurate with several bullets including the Barnes 100 TSX BT and Sierra 100 ProHunter, both using H4350. Mine has a Leupold 6x36.

How well is your rifle bedded? I know they're supposed to have pillars and glass bedding but I've never had a barreled action out of a stock to see how well they do it.
Thanks,
SR

I have a couple Kimber Classic Selects. No issues with getting them to shoot. Kimber made some AAA grade rifles a while back that have wraparound checkering too. I never knew it until I bought one. I was surprised to see it when the rifle arrived. Of course, never buy one based on "stock pictures". Here's one you can look at to see the checkering. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/629957162

south- I have no idea how it's bedded. Never had a reason to pull the barreled action from the stock. If it stops shooting, I'll look into it then.

Just purchased one in .257 Roberts, I've put about 30 rounds through it and it shoots really well. Mine doesn't have wrap around checkering, but there are some limited edition ones out there. I'd recommend you buy one if you want one, accurate, great trigger, and nice balance.

I have one that shoots very well also, but it doesn't have the 257 cool factor, its just a 7mm08. No wrap around checkering either.... but I still love it.

I have a Classic Select in .243. It's my go to coyote gun, and does a number on Kansas whitetails too.
Mine has panel checkering, and is topped with a Leupold VX-3 2.5x8.
