Anyone try this combo yet? My 150's NPT shoot really well with Re26 at 3050. Wondering about the 160. If you haven't tried it, have you run a Quickload on it?

Thanks.

Yes,I've tried RL-26 and the 160 gr NP. I'm getting 2850 fps from a 22" barrel and good accuracy.

Thanks for the QL! Interestingly, my 24" Kimber gets 20-30 ft/sec more than the QL suggests at 60 grains - which is what I load. I may try the 160 NPT in my 270 to see how it shoots.

The 58.5 could have promise.

RL 26 is like RL 17 seems no traditional pressure signs till you are way over. A chrono is a must IMHO.

Shot different and slower loads today in my 270 Winchester and H 4831 showed more pressure 100 FPS slower.

Same rifle and bullets with, RL 26 loads easy bolt lift, primer looked normal and faster. Cases and primer pockets are holding up well.

Something's weird with your speeds. I guess why you have a question mark after the 2874?

Isn't it true that if you add powder but lose velocity you're over max?

So you lost 3 fps going from 58 to 58.5 but then gained 167 fps going up to 59? Seems like a huge increase for only a half grain of powder.

Are you sure the 2874 wasn't 2974?

I questioned the reading only shot 1 round, in each charge
barrel mounted chrono.

If it had read 2974 I would have stopped there!

(10 F Chrono was cold old battery. So was the shooter !)

kk, Curious if you have had a chance to do any more testing ? I just picked up some RL26. Thinking about playing with the same combination. Appreciate you posting up the data. Now I have an idea where to start... Thx...

QL data is based on the assumption R26 is slower than R25, it isn't in my experience. I would adjust the BA to the published Alliant loads for the 150 and see what you get. I bet it would drop the Maximum loads down by a grain or two. I am a fan of R26 but hope it doesn't turn out like some others where there wasn't much published data so it lead to a lot of hot rodding and some really high velocities. But the pressure tested loads do show some great velocities.

No more testing was about out of 160 GR NP but got some seconds coming.

This is were I'm headed. Got a hard copy of the Alliant 2017 load manual last week. RL26 came in this week. Poking around on Hodgdon website this morning, "looks like" most of the other slower burning powders (H4831, H1000, I7828, 780) all drop back 1 to 2 grains when stepping up from 150gr to 160gr bullets. Figured go to the starting loads for 150gr and work up from there. KK's empirical data appears to support that logic. Also helpful to know that I need to break out the chrony since the pressure signs do not show up until well over pressure.

2900 fps with a 160gr NPT out of a .270 should easily kill anything that I am likely to hunt. 3000 fps with a 150gr LRAB would be pretty slick as well.

Should work great. The only problem is it dulls the shine on the Rem 7 mag and WSMs. They will still out run the 270 but not as much as they used too.

After I burn up all my 52.0 grain IMR 4831 loads on hand (40) with the 160 NPT that'll be my 1st choice on a replacement powder. I'd expect a decent jump in velocity for sure.

That old loading sparked by the CCI 250 has been a favorite of mine for many years. What a great bullet!
