While I know there are some that turn their nose up at them, I have shot 130 gr. Core-Lokts for years with excellent results in my little tang safety Ruger UL, as well as my son's 77 MKII. And, they are easily found.

I suspect that you are chasing deer so most loads are up to the task. Now is 500 a realistic maximum, or is it likely to be 300 or less with a chance of a long shot and 500 is as far as he's likely to be competent to? Federal has been good to me in all my .270's, usually at least one of their loads will shoot.

130 grain Federal blue box loads, but I'd try to stay under 500 yards.

I shoot Hornady Amerian Whitetail 130 grain and Winchester/Olin PowerMax Bonded 130 grain factory loads in my 270s.
The heavier 140 grain Hornady American Whitetail and 150 grain Winchester/Olin PowerMax Bonded factory load might be superior at longer, 300+ yards, ranges.

My X-Bolt loved the 130 grain Federal Power Shok and the 130 grain Remington Core Lokts.
