What scope and mounts/rings would you consider strong enough to withstand the recoil of a .475 Linebaugh?

As I recall that is a Thompson Center item. Correct?

I don't know. JD Jones was who was making them when I bought mine. I used a four ring setup on my Freedom Arms .454. Broke lots of scopes, but never had a problem with the mounts.

The T'SOB was an SSK industries product, also available through Magnaport. It is a tough mount, but not the only tough mount around.

What scope/optic are you mounting and what firearm is it going on? The Lovell mount made for Freedom Arms revolvers will withstand 475 Linebaugh recoil, and the new no-drill/no-tap mount from Weigand made for the Ruger Bisleys also has held up to hot 480 Ruger recoil according to reports.

Did you have any scopes that didn't break?

I have a Magnum Research BFR. I haven't made up my mind as to what to put on it. Thinking of a scope or a red dot sight of some kind if they will hold up to the recoil.

The Ultradot 30mm red dots will hold up under that kind of recoil, as will fixed power Leupold scopes. Is your BFR factory drilled and tapped?

Here's a pic of the 30mm Ultradot on my Ruger SRH 480 Ruger. It held up well to 420gr bullets at 1150fps, which was all the fun I wanted to have in a revolver grin

After about a dozen, including the first generation Leupold 2 1/2-8X32 Vari-X, the second generation lasted thousands of rounds. It made no difference if the scope was fixed power or variable, they all broke. The "good" ones lasted about 300 rounds. The poorer ones lasted from less than ten up to the 300 rounds of the "good" ones.

I do believe the newer stuff would hold up. I started in the late 1980's and was sort of part of the unofficial research and development department. Thompson / Contender was very excited I was going to try their "recoil proof" scope. After the first two broke and they sent me the third replacement I sold it and bought something else. I don't remember the order. I got a few sub 2" five shot groups at 100 yards with the Bushnell 2-6X. I put one on a .44 Magnum and it lasted.

The BFR came with a rail to mount a scope with. Is Ultradot its own brand or is it made by another company?
