Who shot Liberty Valance Once Upon a Time in the West The Grapes of Wrath Sorry, but Fonda was not in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. That was John Wayne and James Stewart. Several posters mentioned The Return Of Frank James as a favorite film. He also played Frank in Jesse James, with Tyrone Power as Jesse. I liked that one better than The Return Of Frank James. You of course are correct, I tend to mix Stewart and Fonda up for some reason. They were best friends. I get them mixed up too sometimes.
I am MAGA.

"Somtimes a Great Notion"... Not a true Western, but in the outdoors. A non-union logging family in Oregon going up against the striking unions. Also had Paul Newman and Lee Remick.

No doubt. But then Bronson and Robards (not to mention Claudia Cardinal) brought a lot more to the picture. I hate that they killed Jack Elam in the opening scene! My own favorite is "There Was a Crooked Man", with Kirk Douglas. 7mm

Great Actor a shame that he wasn't sterile. I'd give up Peter Fonda to never have had Jane Fonda

Peter ain't no prize either. And Henry had a lot of admiration for that criminal puts Jane first married. Hank was a helluva actor tho. Fortunately he mostly stuck to that.

He did lots of good movies and one dud, "Once Upon a Time in the West". Not many actors have such a record over many decades.

I have not seen several of the movies previously mentioned.
But My Name is Nobody is one of my favorite films. Along with several of John Wayne's best.
Nobody gets played frequently on our local Old Western broadcast channel.

A fantastically good movie. Hard as heck to find it though. Great movie. Along with the story, I love the time capsule effect. That movie WAS Oregon 50yrs ago. The house was built on my dad's family's property, and was built just well enough to make the film so AFAIK it was never lived in after the movie.

Of all the actors who played "Wyatt Earp," in the myriad movies about "Wyatt Earp," I firmly believe Henry Fonda in My Darling Clementine, was the most believable "Wyatt Earp" ever filmed. The movie had little to do with the real events of the Tombstone era, the Earps, Holliday, the Clantons, and what happened there before and during the shootout at the OK Corral, but Henry Fonda was outstanding as "Wyatt Earp."
