Now THERE'S a marketing strategy!

"Hey, we can't sell these at $1500, and can't get the QC right... I know, let's double the price!"

They made a big post about the price increase and their new and improved model - the "Capra." Basically all they changed was the bedding. I asked them why they were charging $1,000 more for bedding the lug and the shank as opposed to just the lug.

Wasn't the MSRP on the Professionals already $1,999? Did they increase the price on the Professional, or just introduce the more expensive Capra line in addition to the Professional?

While it was buggy, it was still a deal. Now, not so much...

I was just told over the weekend that Trop has bought out LAW. I wonder if this has something to do with the price increase?

I think the guy who owns Trop also has owned LAW from the start...looks like they feel there is a market for that product at that price...maybe they are looking at what Ed Brown use to get for his rifles since they are using his action

My understanding was that they were partners but Trop has now taken a majority share of the business.

Well a lot of makers are charging in the 5-7k price range for instance Gunwerks. Why would they be left out of that market?

My understanding is that's exactly what Datsun did with the 240Z in the 70's.

You don't find a Gunwerks rifle being stocked at your local Sportsmans Warehouse either. I got to handle a few of the LAW rifles there, never have laid hands on a Gunwerks rifle. I guess it all depends on who you're trying to market to.

I see there are still a professionals floating around on the internet. From what I've read most of the accuracy problems were with the 280AI?

Does anyone own one in a regular 280 Rem? Any of the same issues?

What about the bobcat has anyone tried that?

Doesn't seem to matter what the price is if you can't get them. I stopped at a dealer yesterday and they had some a few months ago but sold them and said they have been calling for months to get some more but can't get anyone on the phone. That makes me leafy of buying one. If they can't get a order placed you certainly aren't going to get anything if you have a issue with one and need warranty repair.

I don't know that there are more to be had at this point. From looking at their website the closer and the professional have been discontinued. So whatever is out there is all that is left unless you want to pay 3k for a Capra.

I was looking at a new .280 online and wondered if anyone had any experience from the non Ackley variant.

I'm already geared up to load for .280 rem. I purchased one of the Howa Alpine rifles a while back and really like the stock on that so I've been thinking one of these may be the ticket.

Check with SAS - Whittakers might still have some.

The 704 action is an Ed Brown design. Ed made several models and they were nearly $4K.

Ed dropped his rifle line to concentrate on his premium line of 1911 pistols.

So, that tells me, Ed's rifle line wasn't as productive financially as his pistol line. Business is business, gotta make a profit to survive.

Now, LAW picks up the design and starts making rifles at a much lower price point. They had quality problems, issues, complaints...

Now, they've about doubled the price, which is still under Ed's price point. And at a much higher price point, Ed bailed.

Interesting. Most start ups fail. Wonder how LAW is doing, how they're going to do.

There was a recent post about LAW, I think in the Campfire forum that stated they are now out of business.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
