I need a 264/6.5 range rod for a barrel I'm going to thread/chamber/etc.... in a couple weeks. Anyone know where I can find one that won't take 6-8 weeks to arrive?
Thanks, Bob

Sometimes a good option is drill rod if your bore matches one of the available sizes. McMaster sells .257" diameter (size F), less than $10 for 3 ft. It may fit your 6.5 bore or you may have to remove .001" or so, depending on the barrel. https://www.mcmaster.com/#8893k205/=16yayf9

Yondering, I think it would be a little small for that. My 264 bores are about .258 to top of lands.

Seems to me the 6.5 bore dimensions vary more than most, with groove diameters sometimes pretty oversized, .266-.267" even. Maybe a legacy thing from old military barrels?

Just thought I'd follow up on this thread in case the OP is still interested - I went ahead and ordered a .257" section of drill rod from Mcmaster since I have another 6.5 blank on the way to turn a barrel from, and the specs say .257" bore for that blank.
I don't have the blank yet, but did receive the drill rod (McMaster is very fast to ship). The diameter varies from .2570"-.2573", and is a little too large for my RAR Pred 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. It's been a while since I slugged that bore but it's probably .256".

I use gauge pins in sets of 25 per bore size that I chamber. My 264 set runs from .2553 to .2577 in .0001 increments with .2565 as the mean dimension. This is the mean figure that the barrel mfgs try to hit.

Keep the info coming. I'm new to this (as if you couldn't tell )and every bit of information is helpful. Don't know if I will be investing in a set of guage pins at the moment, but I do have a couple options available at the moment on range rods I've been offered. I guess I need to get set up and start practicing and then think about a 26 Nosler Chamber reamer..... Bob

Yondering, I was wrong. I pinned 4 barrels today. .2564 for 2, .2566, and a .2567.
