I am wanting to get a very nice compact camera for this summer. I am entertaining the Canon G7X II and the Sony RX100 IV for starters. Anyone have either of these or any suggestions?

If you don't need a zoom lens, check out the Fuji X100F as well.

Dennis, those two are the ones I would consider also for a compact. I was perusing last week for grins. The Sony has a pop-up electronic view finder if you do not like using the LCD screen to compose in daylight. The sensors are almost equal per DXO.

The electronic viewfinder on the Sony makes it the hands-down winner, for me.

I have a similar question. the camera I lost, or I hope misplaced is a Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS 50. I liked that camera, what other makes, and models are close to that?

That has the very smallest sensor, actually typical of most pocket cameras, in that regard.

I am specifically looking only at the large sensor (1") cameras. There are about 5 or 6 of them if you don't count all the models of the Sony RX100. They have great lenses,great shutters, great video- some have view finders. They are about the closest thing to a DSLR that you will have with you when not out specifically photographing things.

I hate to 'horn it", or highjack this but, could someone tell me about the sensor size, and zoom as to how the camera is used?

In order to get extreme zoom out of these inexpensive pocket cameras, small, noisy sensors are used.

I think the Sony RX 100's are the best of the 1" P&S's, primarily because of its processor and lens. An optical viewfinder on a P&S doesn't really mean anything to me, and I'd be inclined to go with the MKIII were I in the market to replace my MKI.
