We hired similar folks on every one of our critical project shipments. The contracts I reviewed were pretty clear.

First shot cleared the gunwale, shots two through four bounced right back, I'm surprised he did kill his buddy. He did it again when he switched positions. P

The Navy unit I was attached to provided security for USNS ships and cargo ships. We had a couple of hairy moments where flares from our M203 were deployed and warning shots(roe) were fired but no actual fire fights. I think the fact that we did have M2s, M240s and Mk19 grenade launchers mounted on the rails of the ship fwd, port, stbd and aft, making them highly visible deterred some shhit. Cleaning those damn things was a daily, salty chore.
