I won't pour a slab without fiber mesh especially in our harsh climate.

Definitely want to insulate around the outside face of the slab & I'd highly recommend 4' out from the edge as well. The only issue you'll have is getting your gravel to set-up over insulation.

White dog already has plans for paw prints in the wet concrete.

It helps with strength, it sucks to finish and seal. If they pop through your finished floor, and they probably will... You can burn them off with a torch if you want to. Obviously do that before you seal the floor.

The fibers that this contractor uses is a fine version. More like horse hair I guess. It isn't the big coarse strands they say can replace rebar.

I noticed a little when I did my shop for the first couple months but then it wore off. It isn't noticeable for the other projects I work on unless it is a broom finish.

white bear has it right. go vertical with it along the slab. maybe 2' down, also then add at least 4' out from the slab and have it sloped as well. I would suggest also tying the apron in to the other slab so they can move together. with the addition of insulation under the apron. I have seen the aprons move up here and if they are really close just push the steel up on the outside of your new building.

Right on BP. Absolutely insulate under any aprons or sidewalks.

The 2' down and/or 4' out kind of cover the same area.

You need to imaging the heat that is escaping from under the slab as opposed to the cold going down into the ground. Cold is a relative term for lack of heat. Anyway.......

The heat will escape at ROUGHLY a 45* angle out from under the concrete. Down or out will both stop this loss of heat.

Yards & such I tend to go out & slightly down. For buildings, slabs, parking lots, etc. I like to go down so there isn't the loose gravel issues.

I heard of two separate waterlines at local farms just thawing out. One earlier this week & one last night.

I told you to sink that bugger deep. That or more insulation.

Especially if you're going to be driving over it. I'm sure you know all that already but easy things get lost in the busy-ness

It wasn't. I just came back inside the house. Water line done, I jacked up the 14x20 shed, rolled a couple logs under it, rigged a header log with chains and drug that sumbish around behind the house so it's on it's new spot. Really good to get that little shed out of the way, clear of the building site.

Lots of good work done today.

Oh... that's fast yet.

I have a boy chomping at the bit to get to chickenbuck to go wheeling. smile I told him you're going to be pretty busy this summer. I'm on board for whenever though grin

I'm trying to get the old '78 ready to get up there.

First 400mi Ram 1500 fuel report. 19.9 mpg mixed driving. That's better than the explorer did on the highway!

wow, I'd be very happy with that.

I was thinking about chickenbuck, I sure would like to get out there. I may try to get out there to mow the grass if nothing else. The bugs have got to be insane out there.

I need to grab some old boards and some plywood from out there, Joey and I are building a tree house at home and there's a bunch of stuff at the cabin that I could use for a tree fort.

How about placing that shack you moved last night in a tree?

shocked

Maybe I'll just plant a tree inside it and wait for the tree fort to be done in a hundred and seven years?

Hybrid poplar would be tall enough by the end of summer.
