Good luck Tom. Just got off the phone with one of my hunting buddies. He only saw 2 birds in 4 days.
Ryan, can you use rifles in SD for Turkeys?
Stan, if you come up I'd make the 10 hour drive. Bill, when I was applying for tags a few years ago, you could use rifles for turkeys. You could use a rifle that would hold no more than 7 in the mag or something to that effect. I'm not sure what to think on the birds Bill? Friday is supposed to be a decent day with somewhat gross days on either side of it. If that is the case, Friday should really be good. I don't mind hunting in the rain if I can stay warm, the birds really come out to the fields then.

yes you can use rifles, I asked someone that very same question this morning actually  I saw 30 birds (turkeys) this morning and 10 mule deer on my way to work. saw about 20 deer yesterday and a bunch of ducks geese turkeys while at work. Turkeys ye say? Public land? Notice how I not so subtly wiggle my way to a hunting spot. Sorry. Wait, no I'm not.

Concrete driveway??
I'm seriously jealous, very much. Good to hear the positive update on Cole. Dave If you had a concrete driveway Weezy wouldn't have to park right on the sidewalk.

Well hold your cotton pickin' horses. it aint a done deal. we are getting some quotes. the wife really wants concrete, i am leaning concrete. I would guess that a month from now I will be watching kids draw on my new driveway with sidewalk chalk though. I like that Tzone, the Shaw-na. Makes a little bit of sense even, which is kinda new for you!

How long is your driveway?
It will probably be around $110/yd + whatever they charge to float it. Concrete ain't cheap.
I wouldn't be too surprised if it is $10+/sq.ft.

talked to some turkey hunters this eve at the watering hole, they were from PA and each had gotten 2 birds in OK and they only needed two more up here for the group. birds everywhere they said. land isn't hard to come by either, public or private.

Are those birds there Merriam's? I think they are. I never shot one before. They have a pretty unique color to them.

Metsamies, that sounds pretty cool, make sure to take pictures for us. I think this thread was misnamed. Should have been Birth of a BEER camp cause of the attention it has received Yeah I dunno what it should be called, "heap of nonsense" maybe? 264wm, is your posting handle also your cartridge of choice? I'm really partial to my own .264 which is a stainless/gray laminate M77. I really need to give some attention to that rifle by means of working up a load for it and treating it to some range time. I have been shooting my Rem model 721 264 since 1963 and just had her rebarrled in 2009 with a Shilen 30" barrel I like the light bullets best sierra 85gr&100gr HP. 95gr Vmax and 100gr Nosler ballistic tip with 72gr H4831 on rock chucks to Elk. I am sure the 85gr is at 3900fps as Hodgdon publishes 3812 with 73gr 4831 and I should be pulling a extra 100fps with the longer barrel

Beargrease, you never said anything about anybody dying. That brings it to a whole new level. If you would have even hinted to that, I know Rooster and he wouldn't have said anything. I think you may be a little quick on the trigger or that one, which I understand, I have the same issue sometimes. Ok, a lot.

Made it up to deer camp today. Started out in the rain which turned to snow about 30 miles into the trip. Snowed all day in the North country. The temp was 36*.
The amount of water in the woods is unreal. The deer shack is surrounded by water. We managed to put up enough wood for this year and part of next season. By the time we were done I was wet, cold and grummpy.

My driveway is 156 feet long. Tzone, $10+ per square foot would put it at over $30,000. I think you are off a little on the sq footage cost. I am hoping for around $2.50 or mebbe a little less. Should take a little less than 40 cu yards of concrete....so about $4,400 in concrete. I am hoping for somewhere in that $6/7K range. I hope it starts with a 6 anyway. But I will get an idea any day now.....
Gonna go do some habitat work today. Start of a lot of work for us. Picking rocks and pulling fenceposts are on the docket....anybody free to help??? Meet me there in about an hour or so, k?
