I just picked up a rifle chambered in .338 Diablo, also called the .338 Edge. The round is basically a .300 RUM necked up to .338 caliber and has slightly more case capacity than the .338 RUM.

Anyone have experience with this round? For reloading dies, should I use .338 RUM dies and just back them off a bit. Or, should I purchase .300 RUM dies and have them opened up for .338 caliber and change out the expander ball?

I've heard that RL-25 and 225gr bullets are a good combo. Any other suggestions?

I really didn't need the rifle, but it was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up.
For those interested, here are the rifle specs:
Rem 700 SS action (blueprinted)
Shilen select match grade SS barrel, #4 contour, fluted, finished at @ 26"
Jewel trigger
McMillan stock
Muzzle brake

Hop over to the long range hunting site and post this query. Shawn Carlock, one of the the innovators of the .338 Edge, is there and should be able to hook you up.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the links, hillbillybear. That long range hunting forum looks like it could be interesting.

ColdBore, I have been told the recoil isn't too awful bad, but I don't know. I haven't fired the rifle yet. I've shot a couple of different .338 RUM's, and they kick about the same as my lightweight .375 H&H. Not fun for all-day shooting, but they are do-able in shorter range sessions.

This rifle came with two stocks. It came bedded to a Hogue, with the full aluminum block, This stock is going to be sold, because I don't like the grippy texture, especially on the comb.

The second stock the Edge came with is a McMillan Classic (OD green with black webbing), but it has not been inletted for this rifle. So, I put the Classic stock on my .338-06 to lighten it a bit, and it fits perfectly. The Edge will get the McMillan Sporter stock off my .338-06, but some barrel channel work is in order first.
