I got the 4gr number by the simple expedient of inserting a fired primer into a new (unfired) 300RUM case and filling it with water. I than took a freshly formed (1x fired) 300 Tomahawk case and filled it with water.
Both filled cases were than weighed (both cases came from the same lot of 100 Rem cases).
As far as "worth it", well as one wildcatter put it "it's like lipstick on a woman, it may not change much, but it's sure nicer to look at". Besides, when your starting with a new tube, and have to purchase the reamer anyway, the difference in cost is trivial to the cost of the total project

The way I see it these RUM "improved" cart's have a great potential once you cut the necks off;..........use them as after-dinner shot glasses.

I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts on the 300 RUM A/I. I will make sure that my friend looks over this thread. I'm sure it will give him food for thought.

That was my thought.

When is that artical coming out? I can't wait to read it.

Tailgunner,

Yeah, that's the standard way of doing it--except that most of the time fired brass is used.

When the .300 RUM first came out I measured the water capacity of a fired case at just about 100 grains, so with 4 additional grains the difference in velocity at the same pressure would be right at 1%--or 30-35 fps with 180-grain bullets.
