I have a 20-250 and it was a disappointment. Not enough difference in performance from the 204 Ruger to matter. In fact, I'm going to pull the barrel and use the Remington 600 action for some other project.

Brass would not be terrible to make, but you would have no real gains over a 17-223, 17Rem or one of it's variants, burning powder and barrels at a very high rate. If the price is right use it for a donor. I doubt there is much throat left if the gun was shot very much. A 6mmAI would be a cool little deer/coyote rig.

Is there something in between a 17 Hornet and a 17 Remington?

17Fireball, 17Mach4,17 javelina, 17-222. All very good fur rounds. There is a few Acklyied versions of the 17-222. A few more variants of a 17-223 have a bit more ponies than the 17Rem. 17Fireball is the only one that can be bought over the counter with out getting into expensive form dies. 17cals are very addiciting

Considering that a 17 Remington is overbore with a 222 Remington Mag being the mother case you are way overbore and the gain is going to be moot. I believe that Ackley claimed that about the perfect 17 was the 17/222.

Have played a lot with the 17's over the years--mostly factory stuff, some custom rigs/wildcats. If i were gonna put together a new super-duper walking fur getter it'd be based around the .17 Magnum--maybe AI'd (222 Magnum parent). One of the guys over at longrangehunting.com just loved his. He was getting well over 4000 with some of the 30's. I read that Ackley considered the 225 Win. case the absolute maximum for any efficiency from that bore size. Be nice to own a .17 Flintstone Super Eyebunger tho. just to say i had 1 once. Be interesting to hear the story on how that cartridge got it's name tho. Saw that designation when i was a teenager years ago, and never forgot it.

I have a 17-222 AI it is killer, 25gr at 4200fps for a 22inch barrel, scary accurate. I am at 5 reloads on this batch of Win brass. N-133 is the powder on any 17-222 based from the Mach4 up.

I would not consider doing a 17-06, I would do a 17-280AI for the extra muzzle flash LOL. Makes me want to neck a case down to check that out. I have some 14cal bullets if you want to get crazy.

a 14 bee might be a nice rifle. ill have to do some more checking on the 17-222. im a big fan of the 222 so it dosnt hurt to have another reason to use that case.

That's nuts. The 17 Rem is already on the hot side, a 250 or even a BR-case is in the coconut zone. Maybe I'd buy it for the action and only that. If you have, before you smoke the rest of the barrel, think about a major set back and rechamber to something like 17 M 4 or 17 Fireball.
