Gentlemen, Bought a used Sako Single Shot 6mm PPC in Benchrest Configuration mounted with a Leupold 36x scope from an estate sale today. The serial range is 8**B(Not trying to be cryptic don't have the rifle in front of me). The rifle and scope are in 96% or better condition. The Benchrest scene is not my area of interest, however, for $750 the rifle/scope did not seem to be a bad buy. Any information would be appreciated...
Regards, Matt.

Matt, Depending on what kind of shape the 36x is in.The Sako will out agg. any rifle you now own.Get yourself some good 65g to 68g Br bullets and a supply of H322 N201 Win748 and go see what happens at 200 yards. You just bought probley the most accurate factory rifle ever made. dave

Ditto what Dave said. They normally sell for over $1,000 alone for the rifle. You did good grasshopper. Flinch

Kind of hard to determine over the internet. Ship it on out here to me and I would be able to do a lot more for you, information wise
Oh, and I wouldn't charge you anything for my time, but I would need to shoot it a bit as a functionality test.

Gentlemen, Greatly appreciate everyone's input... Think I'm going to send the 36x off to Beaverton for a check up and try and find a batch of Sako Brass and a set of good dies. Which brings up a question: Do you really need to go to hand dies with a 6PPC USA? Suggestions? Weedhumper is listening...;-).

Flinch, I shot against a guy who had one for 2 years at our local BR match. This was a hunter for score or bullseye type shoot.Set up just for woodchuck guns. Rounded forend, under25x scope, one pound trigger, I had a Sinclair built Hart barreled 223 Ackley improved. 40x with a H&S stock.I went nose to nose with this guy who just happend to be a pretty good shot for 20 matches over a 2 year period. I could beat him at 100,I think I beat him two times.I never beat him at 200. Was not too long after that I had my first 6mm PPC built. There is a very good reason why the PPC is the most dominate BR cartrage ever. dave

Weedhumper I suggest a Wilson straight line seater die.For seating bullets. The stainless Wilson hand die for neck sizing is probley your best option unless you want to have god almighty (clay spencer) make you a resizing die.All you will need for the resizing die is a plastic hammer but you will need an arbor press for the seater. dave Need any bullets? give me a yell.

I shoot several 6MM PPC's, none are Sako's, but there are some similarities. You have a standard .265" neck 6MM PPC. Sako makes brass that will fit perfectly, get yourself a set of Lee dies load the cases and have fun with the rifle. If you feel you need better equipment or components, Redding type S bushing dies are better, and cost over a hundred bucks. BR 66-68 grain bullets are running $170.00 per thousand plus shipping. Federal 205M primers are the best. VihtaVuori N133 is the powder for best accuracy. Don't waste your money on things that wouldn't make the rifle shoot any better. Give Sinclair a call at 26-493-2530 ask them for a catalog. Its full of bench rest things you don't need, but it has a lot of information and is worth reading. Welcome to the accuracy world. Here's a picture of a high dollar target, just look at the holes. Dan

Dave, Have been looking at the Sinclair Arbor Press with Wilson SS Micrometer Seater and Bushing Neck Kit at $218 or so... Have a small pile of Bergers on hand from my eldest brother's 40X... What weights would you suggest? Weedhumper out.
Who sells Sako 6PPC USA Brass?
DFC, Appreciate the input. Especially the neck dimensions. I am afraid that the Sinclair Catalog struck a few years back... Have just about all of their gear with the exception of neck turning and hand dies... Appreciate the suggestions.

Matt,
There is usually a guy on gunsamerica that sells new Sako 6mm PPC brass. Look under the reloading components section. About a buck a pop.
You will definitely like the Sinclair set-up, go for the carbide bushing also.
See ya,
JB

Matt, I did some of my best shooting with a 65g bullet from Myles Hollister and 27.2 of T322.There are a host of powders that will work well.Anything from H4198 to Rel15 will drill holes you are not used to seeing.Alot of people get roped into thinking that N133 or H322 is the only powder for the PPC. Not so my little weedhumper.Granted thats what gets shot alot in the match reports. But did I ever tell you about the winning agg at 200 yards? I shot against 12 other shooters with Win 748.Some of these guys were actually laughing at me.They wernt laughing as I picked up my first place trophy. The moral here weedhumper is that just about anything you have laying around will work great.Let your Sako tell you what it needs .I suggest you get ahold of god almighty and ask him what he would use for the sako factory chamber for resizing dies. Just as a side note. I used my beater PPC one summer as my carry woodchuck gun.Load was 55g Nosler ballistic tip.with 29g of N201.The BT raised hell with chucks and you could get a nice .250 to.3 agg for 20 shots at 100.yards.Shot .750s at 300 yards.handie little devil dave
