All you guys that have a H&R Buffalo Classic in 38-55 had better hang on to them because I don't think H&R makes them any more. I was out to their web site and that model has been purged from the web site.

Dude,
Interesting. I was on the site about a week ago, and the Target model was still listed, although not very prominently.

Regarding accuracy problems, I contacted H&R customer service last week regarding the .38-55 Target model. The rep said that H&R's spec calls for bore diameter of .377 to .381 inches. I slugged mine and it came out at.377 (land-to-land). So, maybe .379" to .381" bullets will work (.377" will not!). I ordered a few .379" bullets from Buffalo Arms, and will try those before going to .380" and .381" diameters.

You pretty lucky in my opinion as my Target model slugs at .381. It's hard to even find a mould that drops a bullet that big without going custom. You should have good results with .378 or .379 bullets any bigger may or may not shoot well. Another plus is if you decide to shoot jacketed bullets you should be able to get good accuracy with the Hornady and Sierra 375 bullets meant for the 375 Win. they keyhole out of mine. Lots cheaper than Barnes or custom jacketed bullets. Another problem with the cast bullets bigger than about .379 is that the round may not chamber due to the case neck area being larger than the chamber, turning the case neck thinner may help but is a chore best avoided if possible. I know cause I have to turn the necks on mine.

Could you FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD write a clear, brief, concise bore / groove dimension for whatever it is you THINK you're talkin' about.......puhleeze ?

You sound lost and confused, pard.

I know nothing and I was confused. Happy to see it wasn't just me.

Mine slugged .377 at the breech and .381 at the muzzle. Needless to say it didn't shoot worth a flip. I replaced the barrel with the 22" 45-70. Now I have a H&R Buffalo Carbine grin
