This series of threads is meant to bring the history and the early culture of the �Campfire to the present. It is for both new and older members but especially the new.
Currently, the search function on the board goes back in only 24 month increments. This is to save server capacity. The decision was made by 24hourcampfire originator and webmaster, Rick Bin. However, there is a wealth of information stored in the archives that, IMO, needs to be accessible for, at least, the newer members. There are great and some not so great discussions that beg to be permanently accessible. Hopefully, you will read subjects that have been debated over decades in the �gun� world, subjects on ballistics, subjects on cartridges, subjects on reloading, subjects on writing, subjects on politics and philosophies etc. And, if you compare those past subjects to current threads, you may notice the same topics appear again and again. Subjects seem to cycle about every 18 months and the �old-timers� have gotten tired of answering the same-old-same-old. Without access to the original in-depth discussions, the newer member is generally left wanting or just flamed and then ignored. That is no way to pass knowledge and experience! Thus, these �catalog� threads.
There are some rules/hints to this section:
1. Most links will not lead you to the start of the thread. Scroll to the top to get the thread context.
2. Do not post comments on the �catalog� threads. This section is only for archive �catalogs�.
3. Do not post on the older threads. If you want to comment or have questions, post on a new thread in the appropriate forum.
4. Some of the information is out-of-date. Some of the links within the old threads no longer work, some websites/companies no longer exist and some of the posters are no longer on the board.
5. If some of the old threads seem to be in the wrong �catalog�, if there are dupes or if you believe something is missing, please forgive us. Stuff happens.
6. For experienced �Campfire members: If you have the inclination, develop a �catalog� of your interest(s) from the archives and post it here. Get to the archives through the �watch lists� or cycle through the search function 2 years at a time. Send a PM to me if you want help.

You can post this until the cows come home. Every so often some guy is going to go to the hunting, or reloading, or AGW forum and ask: What powder/bullet combo can you advise me will be accurate in my gun too? How far off the lands? If you could carry only one gun what would it be? What's the ideal cartridge for __________? My personal fave: "Why do I need bench accuracy when I know I can hit with my gun?" Or: Why did this GW write this stuff, when I believe differently? Big and slow or small and fast, which works best? Or the current all time fave: Hot chamber or cold?
It's gonna happen, it has happened, it's not unique to this board.

The corollary to what .280Rem posted is that every human skill is one generation from extinction. That is why some things come up repeatedly. Eventually they won't come up at all. There must have been heated discussions on the relative merits of Damascus v. Soligen steel for hunting spears, and how that varied for target spears, but we don't hear them any more. Covering the same ground again is a sign that the community has new members, and that is a good thing.

I notice the use of short hand initials like WTS which I figured means "willing to sell"
Has someone assembled the majority of the short hands like this and posted them?
Also where are things like "bump" and "tag" defined?
This info and more like it might give me the "culture" of the site more quickly.

this is very entertaining, the wife left for a drive so she wouldn't say anything she regretted. Maybe the wife got tired of the husband complaining of him not being the center the attention, of her accent and her culture, and her parents (which by the way live half a world away and are rarely welcome to come visit) the wife works 10 and half hour days, drives two hours for work and still has to come home cook, clean and make sure she is in bed by eight 30 because her husband says he needs the sleep. yes also the other complain is that she wakes him up in the morning when she has to get up at 5 am to do it all over again. yes, also the three kids, yes she should be grateful that he took her in with three kids, especially when she solely supports them and has to attend every school event by herself because the husband is too stuck in the computer for hours on end visiting with his forum friends that do not care if lives or dies. bipolar, that was the last diagnoses for the second wife. respectfully a hard working woman that is fed up. thank you
