Anyone else have one of these older sporter model TRG-S's?

I have one enroute to me in 30-06.

I hear they are darn good rifles....I'd like to hear some first hand experiences....

I had a 300 WM in one... Recoil pad needed changing for me but other than that it was a very good shooter... Not the prettiest sako I ever had ( I like wood & blue) but very functional.

My brother has one in 7mm Rem Mag, it's accurate feeds and functions well it is a good gun. If I wasn't a lefty I would have had one. The clip loads easily and holds 4 magnum rounds so a 30-06 should hold 5 like the current models do. As long as the gun wasn't abused your '06 should work well. Let us know how it turns out.

Own a few of them. One of the best bargains of the 90s IMO.

Negatives
1. Recoil pad not so hot
2. Synthetic stock is smooth so it not so gripey under some conditions.
3. Not the best looking rifle around.

Positives
1. Good trigger that is adjustable for pressure.
2. The Sako tapered dovetail scope mount system is excellent.
3. Front of the bolt has three locking lugs like the Sako 75 so it has a short bolt rotation.
4. Action is very strong.
5. Barrel is full floating.
6. Sako extractor is an excellent and proven design.
7. The unique synthetic stock is a very strong design.
8. Bolt is very smooth working and feeds smooth.
9. Has a two position safety. With safety on, bolt is looked from rotating. So it wont dump a round out of the chamber if the bolt handle catches on a tree limb or brush. Unlike my late model Remingtons 700s do. Yes thats a little jab at late Remington 700s.
10. Detachable magazine is a big plus in my book.

I had one in 30-378 Weatherby mag. It was a fine, accurate rifle with a good adjustable trigger. It was a tad heavy both in weight and in recoil, so it went away.

just had it apart and my trigger is only adjustable for pull weight...no adjustment for sear engagement or over travel....but, it did go safely to 2 lbs without appreciable creep....it came with Millet rings but I'll get some real rings before shooting it....

I had one in 30-378 also, but I sold it before I ever shot it!

It seemed like a good rifle, I just could not make myself like that stock! Just something about the feel of it I did not like, and I usually aint to picky!
