I picked up a 9 shot SS 4" Taurus 94 with about a 20# trigger pull. Nice tight little gun and I thought I would replace the hammer spring to lighten it up. Midway USA does not offer it, so I tried Wolff Springs direct. They have springs for the small frame Taurus, but do not recommend them for the 94/941. I understand that rimfires take a little heavier hammer strike to be dependable. Has anybody replaced the hammer spring in a Taurus .22, or lightened the trigger pull another way? All responses are appreciated. Thanks.

First, no I haven't.

But springs are cheap, so I say order one up, install it and see what happens. Keep in mind the trigger return spring can usually use about two coils trimmed off which will help with DA trigger pull.

If you install the mainspring and it works but is still too stiff, you can trim off one coil at a time until you get the desired effect. If you trim one too far, buy another spring, trim one coil longer and you're set.

Springs are cheap, so experiment and don't be shy; buy a couple.

I looked over a new Taurus 94 at a local store recently that had such a rough gritty and HEAVY trigger I honestly thought it was broken. Sad thing was, it wasn't broken at all, that's the way it shipped.

That's really rare for Taurus. In the past 5 years, Taurus revolvers have often had better triggers than both S&W and Taurus. The new S&W's with MIM trigger & hammer are now as smooth as a Taurus, but rarely smoother. Both S&W and Taurus are almost always smoother than Ruger.

Regardless, one grip I have with Taurus revolvers is the shape of their trigger. Smooth trigger action or not, the shape is just enough different from a S&W and Ruger to make the pull a bit stiffer. I suppose (just my guess) that the shape gives you less leverage in a DA action.

For single action pulls, S&W still takes the cake, then Taurus, then Ruger.

I have lightened the trigger on my T94 by cutting some off the stock hammer spring. Sorry - I don't remember how much I cut off, but I cut 1/2 coil increments until I liked it enough to stop (wasn't much), and luckily, I stopped before I had any problems with misfires.

I have never found any source for springs for the 94. Kevin's advice is the best you'll get, I think - except if I were to do it again, I would order a new stock spring before I started cutting on the one that's in the gun.

BTW - my T94 has a very good trigger, and it was not bad out of the box. DA is smooth and SA is actually almost perfect.

I bought a Model 85 spring kit per the Gunblast article and asked that my smith install only the trigger return spring and polish things up a little on my new 94.

He went ahead and did what I asked and installed the hammer spring [for a .38 /.357]and said he test fired it with no FTF.

It felt great but wouldn't fire reliably on double action so I switched back. It is much improved however. The trigger return spring helped a bunch.

If icould find a source for factory springs I might cut some coils but until then I am good.
