I will. Had to find a different guy to do the skull, but it will head out this weekend. Hide is being done by D&C Expediters in Anchorage. Should be done in about 6 months.

In the future show us pictures of your hide and skull.....

Pictures of the hide? I can do that.

Isn't my brother quite the grizzly killer?
Pretty cool to see the results of a dream come true.
We had chatted over the years about the chances of getting him onto a good male and he had put enough effort into it that he's paid his dues I think.
To get him to come up and be in the right place at the right time and take home what has got to be the most incredible animal in North America is a dream come true for me too.
I was talking to my pal the other day about grizzly bears and mentioned to him that as much as I'd like to have a 200 point mule deer buck or a 390 point bull elk in my scope one thing sets them apart from a big male grizzly.
Both the buck and bull might be the baddest in the mountains but they will both bolt as soon as they know your onto them. One of these big bears will too but if he is not quite sure what you are he is curious enough to see what you might taste like.
That is what keeps me stoked to hunt grizzlies. I like the thought that you are matching wits with an animal that truely is the king of the tundra.
Nothing like it if you ask me.

Well, I'm not sure I need to repeat it! I'm happy with one B&C bear, although I do hope to continue to hunt for Grizzlies. I'd really like to focus on a real nice Mule Deer now though.

To me, the most beautiful trophy head is a big Mule Deer. For some reason, big Elk have never really turned my crank. I've seen big ones while Deer hunting, including one that I believe was about 380, and I've shot Elk. But big Mule Deer have been another dream that I'd like to start working on, while I can still hike well.

Finally got the skull scored by a B&C measurer and it made the book. Minimum is 24" and mine scored 24 3/16's. I'm in.

Congrats.......and you have a B&C story to go with the skull.

You might well shoot a 200 inch Mule deer, but I doubt you or your brother will remember that hunt in the same category as you will this one.

I loved the pictures, especially that first one of your Dad and Grampa.

Thanks again for the great write up!

Seriously,

That story needs to be in a magazine. Im sick to death of the: "i followed my well paid guide until he pointed out the one to shoot" stories. Get on the horn and get that published.

Great bear! Im green with jealousy!

It's been a few years since I wrote that story. I said I was going to go chase big Muledeer, but I got distracted! Been hunting Blacktails. Hardest buck deer there is to hunt. Here's a real nice one from last year.

That is a huge blacktail, and what a beautiful shape to the rack!

Enjoyed the bear story.
