I have a strong affinity for the 44 magnum. Not so much because of its power, moreso due to its versatility. From groundsquirrels to big game, the 44 magnum does a fine job. Maybe I was influenced too much by Mr Keith and Mr Taffin. Being an Idahoan I suppose I can be excused for that. Not pictured are my S&W model 629s or .44 specials, but you get the idea.

Ted, a very nice herd of 44's, looks very similar to mine. They mak'em bigger & they mak'em badder but really nothing is better, maybe as good but not better. I've let some go that I sure would like to have back! 4" 29, 6 1/2" 29, 6 1/2" nickel, pinned & recessed, 3" 624. When you have 4 son's its hard to keep the herd corraled!

I still have it, but don't shoot it as much as I used to. The photo is pretty recent.

Gotta love the .44 mag. My brother, nephew, best friend and I all carry Rugers. Funny/Good thing is that I handload for all of us, same loads that shoot absolutely fantastic in my Redhawk, shoot just as well from my brother's Vaquero, or Blackhawk hunter, or the other two's standard Blackhawks.
I developed a 300 gr. load using Sierra jacketed softpoints for elk and bear. They are seated out to far for a Smith and the one friend that had a Colt, shot 4 rounds thru it, and the gun locked up. The Rugers just keep right on eating those things up. However, it does put a hurtin on the wrist after about 15-20 rds.
I have taken 4 deer and 1 elk with my Redhawk, and never leave home without it when going in the woods, whether hunting, berry picking or just hiking and camping. It just feels good on the hip when in the back country.

Those two right there would be extremely hard to beat for an outdoorsman who wants to cover all of his big bore handgunning with just two guns. I have given serious consideration to acquiring those two exact two myself

My wife shot it when we first got it. I told her it was very stout. She just looked at me funny. The first shoot she took, the gun flipped out of her hands just missed her head and landed on the ground behind her. I picked it up and started to walk into the house with it. She said to me, where are you going, I'm not done with that i put more than one shell in it. I handed it back to her and to my surprise she fired the rest of the shell, handed the gun to me and said my hand hurts, it kicks hard.

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
